The latest episode of THE BATMAN -- titled “The Metal Face of Comedy” -- featured the show’s most controversial villain, The Joker.
I’m not going to rehash all stuff I don’t particularly like about this version of the character again (*cough* bare feet and red eyes *cough*), so let’s just get on with the review. Let me start out by giving y’all the synopsis once again, OK? Here ‘ya go:
So, what’s your initial reaction? Uh huh, That’s exactly what I thought. But you know what, this episode wasn’t nearly as bad as it sounds. Hell, I actually found myself liking it. The thing is that I’ve finally found the secret to watching and enjoying THE BATMAN. Do you want me to let you in on it? Alrighty, here’s the deal: YOU DON’T TAKE IT SERIOUSLY. That’s all you’ve got to do to kinda sorta enjoy this show -- if you are an adult that it. My two boys (10 and 6) take it serious as hell and love it! And that’s cool, ‘cause I had reruns of the old BATMAN TV show when I was their age and that’s what pretty much made me a Batman fan. Now, THE BATMAN is much more serious -- and “respectful,” if you will -- of the Batman mythos than that old show. But you get the picture here, I’m sure. Anyway… The synopsis pretty much says it all. The Joker’s “essence” is downloaded into a computer game. Somehow, it’s then transferred into some new “nanobot” gadgets that Wayne Enterprises have developed. As a result, we now have two Jokers -- the real one and the nanobot one. Both are still barefooted and have red eyes, but I digress. Just for fun, The Joker’s gang’s in this episode as well. That would be Harley Quinn -- who does basically nothing but say “puddin’” -- and those two clown mute doofuses that do his grunt work. Oh yeah, there’s that “slacker” dude who is basically a computer geek and is now employed by Clown Prince of Crime. The Joker’s into cyber-crime of late, so it seems.
The "Genie-Joker!" © Warner Bros. To sum it all up and not ruin it for anyone, we get to see a genie-Joker, a Godzilla-Joker, a new cool Batman battle suit, a Batman/Joker team-up (well, sorta), and Nightwing. Oh, you 80s Teen Titan fans will love it! And it also serves as a bit of THE BATMAN foreshadowing. Yeah, yeah I know, it sounds stupid as hell -- and it probably is if you are not under they age of 12 -- but it worked for me. To be honest, I might have enjoyed this episode the most this season next to the one that featured Superman. Take that advice I gave y’all for watching THE BATMAN. It’ll change you forever. Well, probably not, but you may be able to watch this show and not grimace and roll your eyes constantly.
