I’ve made a promise to myself about reviewing THE BATMAN this season: I’ll judge it for what it is, not what I wish it was.

What THE BATMAN “Is,” is a Saturday morning cartoon that is aimed at kids. So what I consider silly, is probably considered “badass” by the younger generation of Bat-fans. Take my two sons for instance, who are 6 and 10 and absolutely love the show.

And to be honest, it is pretty good. The animation is top-notch, the writing is well above average, and never once is The Batman and his universe a joke. So if the Batman is doing nothing but creating new Bat-fans, that’s fine by me.

Season Five of THE BATMAN starts off with a bang with a 2-parter titled “The Batman/Superman Episode.” We finally get to see THE BATMAN‘s version of a “World’s Finest” team-up of DC’s Big Two.

So how is Superman portrayed? Well, he’s very “Christopher Reeve,” if you will. Clark’s the klutz and Superman is the hero we both know and love. Other than that, he looks like, well, Superman -- although I get a strong Brandon Routh vibe from Clark Kent.

Also joining the party is Lois Lane (again voiced by Dana Delany), Jimmy Olsen, Metallo, Black Mask, Clayface, Bane, Poison Ivy, Lucius Fox (who is now very BATMAN BEGINS-ish) and Robin. Oh, yeah, I almost forgot Metropolis’ #1 bad guy, Lex Luthor. Luthor -- voiced by Clancy Brown by the way -- it done very well and ends up being the main villain of the story.

As I said previously, this is a 2-parter and this episode did nothing more than set-up the story. Batman and Superman meet for the first time. There’s animosity between Batman and Superman. Batman and Superman figure out each other’s true identities. Batman and Superman take on several bad guys -- mostly Batman rogues. Etc., etc. I’m sure you get the picture.

Anyway, not too bad of an episode. Certainly not outstanding, but far from being complete crap. The best part of it for me was Lex and the nod to the SUPERMAN: THE MOVIE version of The Man of Steel. And all you post-crisis fans don’t get your panties in a wad, as this Lex is very much the modern take on the character. Except for that crazy purple and green suit they have him wearing and the ray gun thing.

Just kidding.

See, I CAN review THE BATMAN without making one reference to it being kiddified (it is) and Robin making me roll my eyes with his idiotic one-liners (he does it constantly yet again). I AM new man!
