THE BATMAN took its final bow yesterday (March 8, 2008) with a two-part episode -- or “movie” as it was billed -- titled “The Lost Heroes.”

While THE BATMAN began featuring a young Batman who fighting crime solo in Gotham. It ends with a seasoned crime fighting Batman with two junior partners in Robin and Batgirl and membership in the Justice League.

“The Lost Heroes” is essentially a episode of “The Justice League” as the entire THE BATMAN version of DC’s super group appearing together for the first time. So what’s brought them all together? Well, the alien menace known as The Joining has returned to threaten the Earth once again.

Here’s a quick rundown on the plot of series finale: The super powered members of the JL (Superman, The Flash, Green Lantern, Hawkman, and The Martian Manhunter) are briefly kidnapped by The Joining and robbed of their abilities. They return powerless as The Joining has stole their super powers and transferred them into some sort of alien robots. The JL then must find a way to beat The Joining with a lineup made up of a bunch of mere mortals.

And since this show is titled THE BATMAN, it’s The Dark Knight that leads the JL victory and saves the world!

If it were up to me, this is not how I would have ended THE BATMAN. I would have concocted a story that would have ended the show like it began: The Batman fighting crime solo in Gotham City. And I probably would have included The Joker, as he IS the greatest of all of Batman’s foes. (Although one would think it’s The Penguin as many times as he’s seemly appeared on this show!)

I never liked it when various members of the DC Universe began showing up in Gotham and I didn’t particularly dig it when the JL showed up for the finale.

But THE BATMAN is what it is (or should I say “was what it was” now? ) and I finally came to terms with that fact. And once I did, I was able to enjoy the show more than I ever did previously.

It’s Batman for kids.

And to be perfectly honest, it was pretty good Batman for kids.
