A yo-yo.

A see-saw.

Up and down, hit or miss.

Whatever.

That’s some of the terms I use in describing the gut wrenching feelings (OK, I'm joking) I get when watching THE BATMAN each Saturday.

Well, when there’s a new episode that is.

This week’s new episode, “What Goes Up…” continues this season’s “Justice League” theme as Hawkman (voiced by Robert Patrick) pays Gotham and The Batman (and Robin, damn it!) a visit. Seems that the Hawkman rogue “Shadowthief” has been doing his thing in Batman’s city, which of course is the reason behind this episode’s team-up.

I must interject with something that I found quite eerie. Mr. Patrick has now been involved with Batman and has also played Vernon Presley in ELVIS. Y’all know me…Elvis, Batman...(*Jett shudders*).

I bet he's a Cowboys fan. Anyway...

...You can’t have an episode of THE BATMAN without a BATMAN baddie, so Black Mask rings up another appearance.

Again, great animation and a solid story with THE BATMAN, but too damn much of the fantastical for me. For example, this Shadowthief literally turns into a shadow at will and is now shooting people with some sort of Thanagarian technology that makes the victim float upwards…forever.

Thus, the “What Goes Up…” title.

Plus, the whole Hawkman thing -- an alien policeman who has wings like a bird -- just ain’t my cup of tea anyway.

Here’s the question I ask myself when I’m judging each episode of THE BATMAN: Is it “Adult Batman-Fan Friendly?”

This one kind of straddled that fence, but I found it leaning more to the “Cool for those under 13 only” side. (Yet Again, Jett, Jr. II loved it.)

And I know this has nothing to do with what I’ve been discussing, but why in the HELL is the Batman/Gordon relationship totally ignored on this show?! But I digress….

If you are a “Justice League Guy,” I figure you’ll probably dig this episode and I’m sure you’ve enjoyed all the team-ups this season. If you are a “Batman Only Guy” like I sorta am, then you’ll probably let loose with a “meh” after viewing “What Goes Up….”

So, what’s Katar Hol’s deal with Hawks? It’s not like he actually has a "hawk's head" or anything. He just has wings. He could be “Insert any bird-man,“ right? Why not -- I don‘t know -- “Eagleman?”

Never mind.

‘Ol Katar probably didn’t want anyone to think he’s a fan of that NFL outfit from Philadelphia and I certainly don’t blame him
