SHUTTER ISLAND by JoAnne Hyde...

"Martin Scorsese’s SHUTTER ISLAND is a bit of a mixed bag. First of all, it’s a tour-de force for Leonardo DiCaprio. His riveting performance is the best reason to see the film. The range of emotions that he must show -often with little or no transition in between -and the pure physicality of the role provide a showcase for his considerable ability. A strong cast supports him, but it is his film. His performance carries the viewer through the often confusing twists and turns in the plot. In fact, even though the film is a mystery/thriller, there are a few too many red herrings which, combined with the just-under-three- hour length of the film, can be frustrating." >>> READ THE FULL REVIEW!

CLASH OF THE TITANS In 3D
Posted by Jett @ 12:32 PM on Wednesday, February 3, 2010

The upcoming film CLASH OF THE TITANS will be released in 3D, per this following press release sent by Warner Bros....

(February 2, 2010 - Burbank, California) Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures announced today that the upcoming feature film "Clash of the Titans" will be released in 3D worldwide on April 2, 2010. The film will simultaneously be released in 2D.

In making the announcement, Dan Fellman, President, Domestic Distribution, Warner Bros. Pictures, said, "We are experienced and have been successful in the conversion of 2D to 3D going back to such hits as 'The Polar Express,' select scenes in 'Superman Returns' and the last two Harry Potter films."

Fellman continued, "We are confident in the constantly evolving 3D technology, and the results for 'Clash of the Titans' will be presented onscreen with the highest-quality images available today. Based on our track record, we know that audiences are embracing the RealD and IMAX experiences, and we see many opportunities on our film slate to provide moviegoers with these great options at the multiplex."

Jeff Robinov, President, Warner Bros. Picture Group, said, "We're excited about 3D and look forward to bringing a rich, involving visual experience to audiences around the world."

Additional titles on Warner Bros. Pictures' 2010 film slate that will be released in 3D (in addition to 2D) include "Cats & Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore" (July), "Guardians of Ga'Hoole" (September) and "Harry Potter and Deathly Hallows, Part 1" (November).

Warner Bros. Pictures' 3D partner on "Clash of the Titans," Prime Focus, was one of the visual effects vendors on "Avatar," which received an Academy Award nomination for Outstanding Visual Effects.

Nice!

Spidey's Got A New Director
Posted by Jett @ 1:00 PM on Wednesday, January 20, 2010

Per THEHOLLYWOODREPORTER.COM, director Mark Webb has been tapped to direct the new, rebooted SPIDER-MAN film. According to the report, "The plan for the movie is to be in the $80 million range and feature a cast of relative unknowns (so you can quash those Rob Pattinson or Gordon-Levitt rumors at this point). And the story will be pared down to center on a high school kid who is dealing with the knowledge that his uncle died even though the teen had the power to stop it."

SPIDER-MAN 4 Canned, Studio Rebooting
Posted by Jett @ 6:11 PM on Monday, January 11, 2010

Wow.

According to THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER, Columbia has canned SPIDER-MAN 4 and is rebooting the franchise. The studio is also parting ways with director Sam Raimi and stars Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst and plans to his the reset button with a high school Peter Parker. The new SPIDER-MAN -- will still be produced by Avi Arad and Laura Ziskin and Marvel Studios -- is targeting a Summer 2012 release.

Here's the press release from the studio...

Culver City, CA (January 11, 2010) -- Peter Parker is going back to high school when the next Spider-Man hits theaters in the summer of 2012.

Columbia Pictures and Marvel Studios announced today they are moving forward with a film based on a script by James Vanderbilt that focuses on a teenager grappling with both contemporary human problems and amazing super-human crises.

The new chapter in the Spider-Man franchise produced by Columbia, Marvel Studios and Avi Arad and Laura Ziskin, will have a new cast and filmmaking team. Spider-Man 4 was to have been released in 2011, but had not yet gone into production.

“A decade ago we set out on this journey with Sam Raimi and Tobey Maguire and together we made three Spider-Man films that set a new bar for the genre. When we began, no one ever imagined that we would make history at the box-office and now we have a rare opportunity to make history once again with this franchise. Peter Parker as an ordinary young adult grappling with extraordinary powers has always been the foundation that has made this character so timeless and compelling for generations of fans. We’re very excited about the creative possibilities that come from returning to Peter's roots and we look forward to working once again with Marvel Studios, Avi Arad and Laura Ziskin on this new beginning,” said Amy Pascal, co-chairman of Sony Pictures Entertainment.

“Working on the Spider-Man movies was the experience of a lifetime for me. While we were looking forward to doing a fourth one together, the studio and Marvel have a unique opportunity to take the franchise in a new direction, and I know they will do a terrific job,” said Sam Raimi.

“We have had a once-in-a-lifetime collaboration and friendship with Sam and Tobey and they have given us their best for the better part of the last decade. This is a bittersweet moment for us because while it is hard to imagine Spider-Man in anyone else’s hands, I know that this was a day that was inevitable,” said Matt Tolmach, president of Columbia Pictures, who has served as the studio’s chief production executive since the beginning of the franchise. “Now everything begins anew, and that’s got us all tremendously excited about what comes next. Under the continuing supervision of Avi and Laura, we have a clear vision for the future of Spider-Man and can’t wait to share this exciting new direction with audiences in 2012.”

"Spider-Man will always be an important franchise for Sony Pictures and a fresh start like this is a responsibility that we all take very seriously," said Michael Lynton, Chairman and CEO of Sony Pictures. "We have always believed that story comes first and story guides the direction of these films. As we move onto the next chapter, we will stay true to that principle and will do so with the highest respect for the source material and the fans and moviegoers who deserve nothing but the best when it comes to bringing these stories and characters to life on the big screen."

The studio will have more news about Spider-Man in 2012 in the coming weeks as it prepares for production of the film.

Like I said, wow.
