Last Friday (6.25.10), I had the privilege of being invited to attend a press conference held by Warner Bros. Pictures at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, California. The purpose of this gathering of movie folk and members of the online press was the upcoming film
INCEPTION -- which of course is director Chris Nolan’s follow-up to THE film of 2008,
THE DARK KNIGHT.
In attendance to promote the film were…
Stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Ken Watanabe, Joseph (“Joe”) Gordon-Levitt, Marion Cotillard, Ellen Page, Tom Hardy, and Cillian Murphy. The “behind the scenes crew” was represented by composer Hans Zimmer, producer Emma Thomas, and THE MAN behind this whole endeavor, director Christopher Nolan.
Though most of us in attendance had seen INCEPTION the night before, we didn’t learn a whole lot of the film's intricacies to be frank.
Come on now! This is a "Chris Nolan Film." Did anyone expect anything less?
However, what I did learn is that every single one of them were quite PROUD of INCEPTION and the actors had the utmost admiration and respect for Mr. Nolan.
Speaking of Chris, I’ve had the honor of meeting and chatting with him previously -- as well as interviewing him several times now in the PC/roundtable format. I’ve got to say that this is the most relaxed and happiest I’ve ever seen him. I’m guessing that his positive vibe is due to the fact that he’s awfully proud of this film -- as well he should.
I even saw the dude blush.
Really.
I’ll be posting bits and pieces of this press conferences’ Q&A over the next week, as well as my review of INCEPTION on or around JULY 8, 2010, so stay tuned.
And no, I did not ask Chris or Emma one question about BATMAN 3. Sorry.
There's one thing that DID strike a chord with me from listening to Chris on that day. My appreciation for being clueless about a film before seeing it increased exponentially. We’re from the same generation of movie fans who went into a theater as kids knowing nothing about what we were about to see.
Respect.
(But you CAN stay tuned to BOF for the BEST -- and TOTALLY SPOILER FREE -- BATMAN 3 coverage there is. Trust me. *wink*)
