How Batman Fits Into SUICIDE SQUAD

SUICIDE SQUAD is a kinda-sorta a Batman film…don’t you think?

In the DCEU, it’s at least located in the Batman sector of that cinematic universe.

How can it NOT be with Batman villains in the film such as Deadshot, Killer Croc, Harley Quinn and – what’s his name? – oh yeah, The Joker. Heck even a sometime back ally – Katana – is a character in the movie. So, when the characters for SUICIDE SQUAD were revealed, I just knew that Ben Affleck’s Batman would very likely make a cameo appearance in it.

And he does.

In fact, we’ve known it for quite a while as it was common knowledge that Ben Affleck (and his stunt double) was on the Toronto set of SUICIDE SQUAD – in costume – and producers and filmmakers really didn’t try to hide that fact. For one thing, it would be impossible as they were filming a Batman scene outside, and secondly, know Batman’s in it makes for good hype.

So, the question is, what is Batman’s role in SUICIDE SQUAD. Via COLLIDER.COM, director David Ayer explains…

“All the Batman movies have been from Batman’s point of view. He’s the good guy. He’s the hero of his own movie in all the movies we’ve seen. If you look at what Bruce Wayne has done in creating the Batman persona, his idea was to terrorize criminals. It’s sort of psychological warfare against criminals. This wraith that comes in the night and attacks and pulls criminals from society. For the first time, we’re seeing Batman from the point of view of the criminals and he’s freaking scary.”

A freaking scary Batman. Cool. I can dig it.

While I’m not the biggest fan in the world of BATMAN v SUPERMAN (though I'll concede the "Ulimate Edition" is a bit better), I did like Ben Affleck’s Batman quite a lot (well, except for that blatant killing thing) and it was the highlight of the film for me personally. So, Affleck’s Dark Knight cameoing in SS is more than fine by me.

David Ayer is directing SUICIDE SQUAD, which stars Jared Leto as The Joker, Will Smith as Deadshot and Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn. Also in the cast are Joel Kinnaman, Cara Delevingne, Viola Davis, Adam Beach, Ike Barinholtz, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje and Scott Eastwood.

SUICIDE SQUAD hits theaters on AUGUST 5, 2016!

It feels good to be bad.

Assemble a team of the world’s most dangerous, incarcerated Super Villains, provide them with the most powerful arsenal at the government’s disposal, and send them off on a mission to defeat an enigmatic, insuperable entity. U.S. intelligence officer Amanda Waller has determined only a secretly convened group of disparate, despicable individuals with next to nothing to lose will do. However, once they realize they weren’t picked to succeed but chosen for their patent culpability when they inevitably fail, will the Suicide Squad resolve to die trying, or decide it’s every man for himself? - Warner Bros. Pictures
