If There's A Justic League Film, Zack Snyder Will Direct...Allegedly

This isn’t really “news” as THIS STORY been out a few days. I guess you can chalk it up as a bit of a “commentary” rather than a news story.

According to the recent MAN OF STEEL feature in EMPIRE, if the new Superman movie is a big hit (which I'm sure it will be), Warner Bros. will turn to Zack Snyder to direct a Justice League film for the studio. Here’s the exact quote from the magazine…

“Warner Bros.’ long-term view has been revised to embrace this new vision, just as the Dark Knight films resisted the commodification of Marvel. Whether we get a Justice League, they say, depends on MAN OF STEEL. If we do, they say, Zack Snyder will be asked to direct.”

Keep in mind that this is the magazine’s take and not a direct quote from anyone at Warner Bros. Could this simply be EMPIRE’s interpretation of what might happen based on chats with the studio? Yes. But I’ve been hearing that Warner Bros. was eyeing Snyder for a JL film for a few months now, so I do believe this is true.

In addition, Snyder says that he included some very subtle DCU references in MAN OF STEEL...

“In a weird way it is also the DC world. I have been making references to the DC Universe, just to let you know that world is out there.”

Here’s how I ultimately think this will all shake out…

1) MAN OF STEEL will be a huge hit and Warner Bros. with announce a Summer 2015 sequel to be helmed by Zack Snyder and written by David Goyer sometime this Summer.

2) Around 2017-ish, a Justice League or World's Finest (Batman/Superman) film will finally hit the big screen and essentially be the third MAN OF STEEL film – “The Man of Steel and his Super Friends.” It will, of course, be directed by Zack Snyder. SO...

Warner Bros.' future DC on Film brain trust? (*fingers crossed*)

If I’m Warner Bros., I’m hiring Snyder and Goyer to oversee DC on film and I’m giving them some power -- REAL power. Now, I’m quite sure that the President of Warner Bros. Pictures will still have final say who which films get greenlighted, but when Snyder/Goyer recommend a project to the WB boss, greenlight that sucker!

And while I’m giving advice to Warner Bros., here’s hoping they’re already planning the inevitable Batman on film reboot. If they’re hell-bent on creating a cinematic DC Universe, then I think it’s best for the new movie Batman to debut in the first team-up film, and then spin him off into his own solo series. (I’d prefer it to be a Batman/Superman team-up film, but that’s a op-ed for another day!) I've got TONS of ideas about the future direction of Batman on film, but for now, I'll say that I completely trust both Snyder and Goyer when it comes to the cinematic Bat. Heck, I laughed at Zack's quote about the "backlash" from fans -- well, fanboys, actually -- over him getting the MAN OF STEEL directing gig...

"For me it is like, 'Whatever.' I don’t know what they [fanboys] really want, so it is impossible to really take that with anything but a grain of salt. Otherwise you would do nothing. They want the underwear! 'Do you really?'"

HAHAHA! "Whatever" indeed! Fanboys, bless 'em gosh darnit! Anyway...

Come on Warner Bros., let’s get this party started! BANG, BANG, BANG! - Bill "Jett" Ramey
