Via EW.COM, the new Commissioner Gordon on film -- J.K. Simmons -- talks a little bit about Jim Gordon in JUSTICE LEAGUE, how he digs the "badass" side of the character, and how he hopes to play JG in several DCEU films. Check it out...
"[It's]been a fun experience, and knock wood, if it continues, then Iíll hopefully get to play Commissioner Gordon in a handful of movies."
"People of my generation remember Commissioner Gordon as this jolly, ineffectual Santa Claus type, and I think over the years in the comics thereís definitely much more of a badass side to him. One of the things thatís interesting to me is investigating hopefully a little bit more of that badass [side of Gordon]. Youíre living in a universe where itís pretty tough to be a badass compared to somebody like Batman, but in the universe of non-superheroes I like the idea of Commissioner Gordon as a guy that can take care of himself, a guy thatís a real partner to Batman, not just a guy that turns on the Bat-Signal and goes, 'Help! Help, Batman!'"
I'm quite sure that one of those "handful of movies" will be solo Batman films featuring Ben Affleck's Batman. Personally, I think this is great casting and I'm looking forward to seeing what Mr. Simmons brings to this new cinematic version of the character. I also give him props for taking on the role after Gary Oldman's iconic turn as Jim Gordon in THE DARK KNIGHT TRILOGY. This cat is a great actor and I'm sure he isn't intimidated and he certainly sounds inspired.
