SUPERMAN/BATMAN #38

From DC COMICS: "Alan Burnett (producer of Batman: The Animated Series), Dustin Nguyen (BATMAN, WILDCATS) and Derek Fridolfs deliver Part 2 of 'Torment.' A major villain returns, and it will have repercussions across the entire DC Universe! And what's The Scarecrow have to do with all this?"

When SUPERMAN/BATMAN #37 ended, it seemed as if Metropolis was transforming into Krypton, SUPERMAN RETURNS style. In the latest issue of this title (#38), we find out that Clark was only dreaming -- or having a nightmare is more like it.

In a nutshell, here’s the deal when it comes to this issue…

A very Brandon Routh-looking Superman/Clark begins to totally trip out…

The Batman questions Lex Luthor in his own special “Batman Interrogation” way…

Darkseid shows up and seems to be, how should I say it, losing a step…

And at the end, we find out that a classic, "scary" Batman rogue is part of the mix as well. Could he be the reason behind Clark flippin' out? It certainly looks to be the case in the issue’s final panel.

Dustin Nguyen’s art continues to impress me here. I like his depictions of both The Batman and Superman -- the latter of which has a “youthful” vibe that I find refreshing. Alan Burnett’s story is still keeping me interested -- even though I admittedly am not a fan of fantastical elements being a part of stories including The Dark Knight. The Batman/Luthor scene was particularly good and spot-on when it comes to “Batman.”

If you are a fan of the entire DC Universe, I bet you’ll love this storyline, as well as this particular title. For all y’all “Batman Fans” out there like me -- who basically just dig The Bat -- me liking this story and this comic book speaks volumes.

And you know, it does star the "World's Finest." ;)
