COMIC REVIEW: ROBIN #156
Author: Ryan Hoss

Finally, some of the plot threads and issues have been addressed in the newest issue of ROBIN. This issue surprised me; this was quite the departure from last few action-packed issues, but it was definitely a great read.

If you’ve been reading the past few issues of ROBIN, the first page will shock you. The storyline from the last issue of the kidnapped children is finally resolved as Tim speaks with his friends.

Then, we catch up with Dodge (whose real name we learn is Mike Lasky). He’s still in a coma in the hospital. Dodge’s parents are there, and they make sure that Robin knows they don’t blame him for Dodge’s condition.

Now, the meat of the issue emerges. As Robin swings through the night, thinking about all of his problems, he comes across a young man who is contemplating suicide. The rest of the issue is basically a heartfelt conversation between our hero and this troubled college student.

Again, this issue was a nice departure from the past few issues of ROBIN. Surprisingly, the story didn’t turn out to be a mushy, sloppily written ‘superhero counseling’ type of issue. Beechen has crafted a well-written narrative of Robin and how he gets through every day. And as usual, Williams’s art perfectly complements the writing. I’m still looking forward to more issues in their run.
