No Robin or Catwoman?
Posted by: Jett
Thursday, July 31, 2008

6:42 AM TEXAS TIME: One of my old TDK insiders emailed in overnight to give us her/his insight into the use of Robin and Catwoman in BATMAN 3. This very in-the-know person says it's very unlikely that Chris Nolan would use Robin or Catwoman in a potential sequel. "The only way [Nolan would use Robin or Catwoman] is if Warners demanded it -- and if they're smart, that won't happen," says our gal/guy. She/He also informed us that the "cats" comment made by Lucius Fox (Morgan Freeman) to Bruce Wayne (Christian Bale) meant absolutely nothing -- it is simply a tongue in cheek remark and nothing more. And one more thing, the "Mr. Reese = Mysteries" thing? Nothing there to see, time to move on...

FYI: BOF's TDK CONTEST #4 ends tomorrow the two winners will be notified via email over the weekend. There's still time to enter! I've got one more TDK contest for August, so stay tuned.

Could Robin Really Work?

8:50 PM TEXAS TIME: Johnny Depp as The Riddler? Philip Seymour Hoffman as The Penguin? Haven't we heard the latter rumor before? Nonetheless, the rumor mill is already churning and I expect it to be spitting 'em out even bigger and better(?) than the ones we got three years ago after BEGINS. Anyway, I figure this is BS, but I thought I'd pass it along regardless. Oh yeah, the source of this is the NATIONAL ENQUIRER, but passed along to BOF by our 'ol friend Kris Tapley of INCONTENTION.COM.

10:48 AM TEXAS TIME: Yesterday, I was having a sequel discussion (Bang, bang, bang on the Nolan drum!) with BOF's Paul J. Wares. So I say to him, "PJW, I don't like Robin, but I'm starting to think that he may work in the next film -- especially after the turn of events in THE DARK KNIGHT." And he says to be "Funny you said that. I'm working on this op-ed." So today, I have Paul's op-ed for your reading pleasure: "ROBIN: TO BE OR NOT TO BE." It's a VERY good read, so I suggest doing just that. For the record, not a big fan of Robin and I still don't want to see him in the next Bat-Flick...

BOF'ers TDK Vote!
Jolie Interested in Catwoman?

Tuesday, July 29, 2008

6:00 PM TEXAS TIME: In what MUST be considered a shock to all the readers of BOF -- some sort of anomaly I assume -- THE DARK KNIGHT scored the following on the TDK “BAT POLL”:

A+ - "A MASTERPIECE!" (3,462 votes/78% )
A - "Best BATMAN Ever!" (774 votes/17%)
B - "Good. I really enjoyed it." (152 votes/3%)
C - "It was OK, but nothing special." (27 votes/1%)
D - "Meh. I was disappointed." (16 votes/0%)
F - "Terrible!" (25 votes/1%)

Can y’all BELIEVE that 98% of the great BOF’ers gave this film a "thumbs up?!"

Speaking of "Bat-Polls," THERE IS A NEW ONE of the female feline persuasion that might be of interest...

I spoke too soon. One more "BOF TDK Review" is coming tomorrow penned by my man Sean "The Man Who Laughs" Gerber, FYI.

10:55 AM TEXAS TIME: The final BOF TDK Review: PAUL J. WARES...

Dan Fellman of Warner Bros. tells USA TODAY that the studio is certainly down with another Bat-Flick, it's now up to director Chris Nolan. "We're all still in awe of Christopher Nolan and what he has done. We're certainly hoping he has a few more ideas up his sleeve, because we're just waiting for him to call." Until he DOES call -- and sign on -- I'll be banging that drum...

MARKETWATCH.COM has a nice little story on the TDK viral marketing headed up by 42 Entertainment, FYI.

Interviews: Chin Han & Eric Roberts

Monday, July 28, 2008

5:43 PM TEXAS TIME: Forget BOF (Not really!) on Leo Quinones' "The Film Freak Show" (97.1 FREE FM out of Los Angles) last Saturday night, but you'll certainly want to listen to Leo's extended interviews with Eric Roberts ("Sal Maroni") and Chin Han ("Lao"). You will find them HERE. Just tell 'em Jett sent you -- and listen to me as well! Moving on...

I knew it would be coming and sure enough, it has -- BATMAN 3 rumors! The craziest one I've heard already? OK, Chris Nolan wants to buy the Batman movie rights so he can have TOTAL control of Batman on film. Cool! And I'm on the verge of buying the Dallas Cowboys which is about as likely. Anyway, I'll weed through the BS and do a rundown them later this week...

The Dark Knight (and Tumber) is a Fathead!

10 Days/314.2 Million!
Snyder Interested In Miller's TDKR?!

Posted by: Jett
Sunday, July 27, 2008

5:55 PM TEXAS TIME: I don't care how much coin this film makes, THE DARK KNIGHT SUCKS! ;)

12:25 PM TEXAS TIME: (From REUTERS.COM) Warner Bros. estimates that THE DARK KNIGHT's 10 day box office take will be $314.2 million, setting a new -- and yet another -- record. Warner Bros. distribution president Dan Fellman is predicting another record as well: 18 days to reach $400 million.

To Warner Bros.: Get Mr. Nolan to sign NOW!

To Mr. Nolan: Please sign NOW! We need one more from you and you only!

8:40 AM TEXAS TIME: While BOF's #1 goal right now is seeing a Chris Nolan-directed follow up to THE DARK KNIGHT (Hear me banging the drum?), I've got to admit that the following is certainly an interesting proposition. At the WATCHMEN panel at Comic Con International this past Friday, director Zack Snyder said he'd love to see the Frank Miller graphic novel, THE DARK KNIGHT RETURNS, get the "On Film" treatment. Miller seems to agree telling Snyder, "You can do it anytime you want to Zack."

So what is BOF's stance? I'm all for it -- as long as it's AFTER a Chris Nolan-helmed BATMAN 3. In fact, I'm all for it and think it'd make for one hell of a movie. Warner Bros., you have BOF's blessing. But for now, get Mr. Nolan and his team signed up for that BATMAN 3 ASAP! SOURCE: SLASHFILM.COM...

Now back to the current Bat-Flick, it looks like another kick-ass weekend for THE DARK KNIGHT. Box office gurus are now saying that the film will sit at $311 million after this weekend breaking yet another record -- fastest to break $300 million!

BOF Contributors Review THE DARK KNIGHT

Friday, July 25, 2008

3:44 PM TEXAS TIME: Going into "TDK Weekend #2," THE DARK KNIGHT sits at $238.6 million-ish. Can it do $61.5 million-ish domestic this weekend to surpass $300 million? I say YES! And I know I'm going to contribute. AGAIN...

True story...

I go to my barber shop today with my youngest to get both our ears lowered. I’m wearing one of my many “Joker Shirts’ that I’ve been proudly sporting over the last year or so. Anyway, the shop is a little packed, so the wait is going to be an hour-ish.

If you know anything about barber shops, you know that you get a pretty good cross section of the population in there.

So they see my Joker T-Shirt. And I SWEAR, all those folks -- young and old -- began talking about TDK and how great it is. And the ones that had not seen it yet, were saying “I’m GOING!” come this weekend after all the "It's AWESOME" discussion.

I thought that was really cool and wanted to share with you BOF‘ers.

7:21 AM TEXAS TIME: BOF's contributor's TDK reviews are coming in. First up, Mark S. Reinhart's "DARK KNIGHT THOUGHTS," Gregg Bray's TDK REVIEW, and Alexandre Winck's TAKE ON TDK.

Y'all, this thing is going to make more than $400 million when it's all said and done! I'm not going to do daily B.O. reports, but significant milestones will be duly noted -- like it going past $300 million very shortly.

2:33 PM TEXAS TIME: He won't be in a Chris Nolan-directed BATMAN 3, but we may see The Joker in SUPERMAX -- sorta. >>> Visit BOF's DC COMICS ON FILM for more....

TDK & "Sequel" Mailbag
Goyer Talks #3

Tuesday, July 22, 2008

6:15 PM TEXAS TIME: Hey, it's all about good times right now! Saw it again today -- in IMAX -- and the place was PACKED yet again. Anyway, I'm going to show y'all this pic that was taken by Mrs. Jett at the "BOF TDK PARTY":

Thanks guys!

Look, I KNOW what's going on, so you can stop it with the emails. Let's wait 'til all the facts come out and then you'll see BOF do a story in it. In the meantime, the Bale family deserves their privacy.

8:35 AM TEXAS TIME: According to David Goyer, he's already got an idea for the "THEME" of BATMAN 3. Here's what he had to say to MTV: * "I think that’s the scariest thing – to think, could we come up with a third movie that was as good as the first two? Can we top ourselves? Doing it a third time would be a big proposition. We’ve only talked loosely about it, though, Chris and I."

* "I have [a theme and villain]. But I’m not going to tell you. Chris is very particular about that."

* "I do think, though, that if there’s not a third film – these two movies stand on their own. I think it could go either way."

I know which way I -- and all of "Batman Nation" want it to go: We want one more damn film from y'all! :)

6:56 AM TEXAS TIME: I've hammered out a new BOF MAILBAG in which I take on the most common questions I've been getting via email over the last few days. SPOILERS!, FYI...

4:08 PM TEXAS TIME: My friends over at Warner Bros. just sent me the following press release to share with you BOF'ers:

BURBANK, CA, July 18, 2008 – Just past the stroke of midnight, Warner Bros. Pictures’ “The Dark Knight” broke the record for a 12:01 a.m. film opening, earning an unprecedented $18,489,000 at the box office, it was announced today by Dan Fellman, President of Domestic Distribution, Warner Bros. Pictures. That total does not include the grosses from the subsequent 3:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. showings.

The 12:01 a.m. grosses soared past the previous record of $16.9 million, which had been held by “Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith” since May of 2005. “The Dark Knight” also surpassed Warner Bros. Pictures’ own studio record for midnight showings, previously held by “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.”

In making the announcement, Fellman stated, “We have been thrilled by the response to ‘The Dark Knight,’ first from the critics and now from audiences. From our earliest screenings, the buzz on the film has been white hot and it hasn’t let up. Now that the opening weekend is here, we are very excited to finally share ‘The Dark Knight’ with moviegoers nationwide.”

Bad-ASS! This film deserves ALL the accolades and success that it’s receiving. If you disagree, you are a hater and TOO BAD for you. Batman fans, enjoy all of this as I haven't seen it like this since '89.

2:57 PM TEXAS TIME: Got to plug my man Kris Tapley's TDK REVIEW -- which is very positive by the way and pretty much spot on...

Speaking of reviews, I must also link to my two favorite Texas newspapers and their reviews of this GREAT film: THE HOUSTON CHRONICLE and THE DALLAS MORNING NEWS. Again, both big-time positive...

Had a great time at the BOF party last night. Missed a ton of BOF'ers as they were standing in line, but the buzz and number of folks there period was OFF THE HOOK! Mrs. Jett and I left at 2:30 AM and there was a HUGE line for the 3 AM screenings! Hell, I went back this morning and took my two oldest kids to see it, and the place was PACKED at 10 AM! Y'all, this SOB is going to own...just OWN. Anyway, here's me and "Mrs. Jett" on our way out the door last night:

I'll I can say to all of y'all is that I hope that each and every one of you enjoy this film as much as I did -- all FIVE TIMES that I've seen it! It's GOOD to be a Batman fan right now.

BOF is not posting every review of TDK, but I will post the "major" ones. CLICK HERE to read the review from THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER. If you want to keep up with all the reviews, I suggest visiting ROTTENTOMATOES.COM -- where it is running at "100% Fresh" right now...

Got you ticket for next Thursday at midnight...or 3AM...or 6AM?! That's right, theaters are scheduling 6AM screenings because tickets to screenings have been "flying off the shelves," if you will. CLICK HERE for a story on this new wave of "Batmania" via THE NEW YORK TIMES. Honest to goodness, I haven't seen anything like this "Batman" since 1989...

OK, one last thing from a well respected critic, RICHARD ROEPER OF THE SUN-TIMES. Here's what he says about TDK and Heath Ledger:

"I'll be reviewing [THE DARK KNIGHT] on 'At the Movies with Ebert & Roeper' this weekend, but for now let's just say that it will be a huge upset if the late Heath Ledger ISN'T nominated for an Academy Award for best supporting actor -- and it won't be due to some maudlin sympathy vote. Ledger doesn't have to steal every scene he's in because he walks in and owns it from the get-go. This is one of the funniest, creepiest, darkest, most interesting and most amazing performances I've seen in any movie this decade."

Jett's Review of THE DARK KNIGHT
The Joker's at it AGAIN!

Posted by: Jett
Monday, July 7, 2008

7:45 PM TEXAS TIME: First of all, I've never received as much email from folks over the last 10 years ever as I did today regarding my REVIEW OF THE DARK KNIGHT. Trust me, I've read every single one of them and they were very VERY much appreciated! So from me to all of y’all, “THANK YOU!” Anyway…

I’ve got my purple wristbands in that I will be wearing -- and giving away at the BOF TDK WATCH PARTY -- in honor of Heath Ledger.

I know a lot of y’all got your own -- I've got your emails -- but if you didn’t, wear that Joker T-Shirt at your premiere and strap something purple around your wrist -- we’ll all know what it means!

Like I said, The damn Joker's at it again! "Josh C." and several other BOF'ers said the bastard sent them yet another text that said: "OK clown, I see one last test of skill in your future. Post this where everyone can see it: LAMB." Heads up...

A fantastic article via the LOS ANGELES TIMES on the great Chris Nolan. A must-read...

I'll be in New York this coming weekend through the first part of the week. Hopefully I'll have a cool report and some nice pictures to share with y'all. And again, a big THANKS to everyone that reads this site.

8:00 AM TEXAS TIME: Here it is, Jett's review of THE DARK KNIGHT. It was OK...

Remember, there are two CITIZENS FOR BATMAN events taking place tomorrow -- one in Chicago (9PM Central) and one in New York City (10 PM Eastern). If you attend, SEND BOF A REPORT...

There's a new edition of "GOTHAM TONIGHT" over at GOTHAMCABLENEWS.COM -- Loeb vs. Maroni.

TDK Cast TV Schedule
Posted by: Jett
Sunday, July 6, 2008

3:28 PM TEXAS TIME: BOF‘ers, I love y’all. But PLEASE don’t’ send me any links to any articles that quotes the GREAT Gary Oldman saying that The Riddler is going to be the villain in the next film!

Look, Gary was just talking…responding to what was probably a BS question in the first place. Most every person there -- except me -- was damn determined to pin SOMEONE from the cast and crew into a corner about a sequel. In other words, IT MEANS NOTHING! Any outlet that’s worth their salt shouldn’t be reporting that as “GASP! GARY OLDMAN SPILLED THE BEANS ON BATMAN 3!”

If…IF(!)…Mr. Nolan honors us with another BATMAN, and Edward Nashton/Nygma shows up, it has NOTHING to do with Gary’s very tongue in cheek comment taken out of context.

7:18 AM TEXAS TIME: Unlike 3 years ago when there was very little press for BATMAN BEGINS, the cast of THE DARK KNIGHT is making the TV rounds big time! >>> CLICK HERE FOR THE SCHEDULE...

The BOF PODCASTS are coming...I promise! So here's one of the first ones -- sort of. Check out the interview BOF did with "THE ROD RYAN SHOW" last Monday, June 30th. >>> CLICK HERE TO LISTEN.

Stream "THE ROD RYAN SHOW" every morning,
6-10 -- TEXAS TIME of course -- HERE!

BOF's TDK coverage picks up again tomorrow with a few more cast/crew interviews as well as "Jett's TDK Review" coming Monday, July 8th, FYI.

INTERVIEW: Gary Oldman
Posted by: Jett
Wednesday, July 2, 2008

4:25 PM TEXAS TIME: OK, I got all of yall's emails -- and thank you! My review of THE DARK KNIGHT will be posted on JULY 8, 2008 at midnight, FYI...

BOF just got a press release informing us and you that the TDK composers -- Mr. Zimmer and Mr. Newton-Howard -- will be performing at the TDK premiere! BOF will be in NYC covering the event for y'all. >>>

GOTHAMCABLENEWS.COM has a new episode of "GOTHAM TONIGHT" for your reading pleasure.

9:28 AM TEXAS TIME: BOF's coverage of the TDK press junket continues today with an interview with Commissioner Gordon himself, Gary Oldman! >>> CLICK HERE TO READ...

VARIETY has an article about the darkness of THE DARK KNIGHT and the possibility of a "BATMAN RETURNS Situation" happening again...

The AP's Dave Germain has an article about the possibility of Heath Ledger being nominated for -- and winning -- an Oscar for playing The Joker in TDK. >>> CLICK HERE TO READ...

"Friend of BOF" Kris Tapley has an interesting article about Robin in the next Bat-Flick and you can read it HERE...

This has been out, but I figured I'd mention it here since I'm a big Kevin Smith fan. On his MYSPACE BLOG, Kevin give a really short review of TDK and says:

"Without giving anything away, this is an epic film (and trust me: based on the sheer size and scope of the visuals and storytelling, that's not an overstatement). It's the Godfather II' of comic book films and three times more earnest than "Batman Begins" (and f***, was that an earnest film). Easily the most adult comic book film ever made. Heath Ledger didn't so much give a performance as he disappeared completely into the role; I know I'm not the first to suggest this, but he'll likely get at least an Oscar nod (if not the win) for Best Supporting Actor. F***ing flick's nearly three hours long and only leaves you wanting more (in a great way). I can't imagine anyone being disappointed by it. Nolan and crew have created something close to a masterpiece."

Hell F'n (Hehehehee - just following KS!) yeah!

Guess who I ran into...

4:19 PM TEXAS TIME: Sorry for the 3 day delay here at BOF, but I’ve been doing what BOF is all about -- representing this GREAT comic book character and hoping ALL eventually discover what he's all about. Anyway…

My friends -- my Batman brethren -- it’s a CLASSIC. I was flat-out speechless during the entire closing credits and I wasn’t the only one who lost their capacity to talk.

Props to ALL involved. But I've got to give out a "Hell Yeah!" to Jonah Nolan, David Goyer, and Chris Nolan for writing one HELL of a story and script.

My review is forthcoming, so stay tuned. But I will say that THE DARK KNIGHT moved me -- as a Batman fan -- in a way that I’ve never experienced in my life. My eyes welled up and y’all can laugh if you want. But your’s will too very soon…

I’ve got a lot of stuff to post here on BOF from the junket, and I’m trying to give y’all a better class of Batman fansite. Accordingly, my reports are going to eliminate all the BS agendas and idiotic questions that are asked by folks who don’t give a damn about The Dark Knight. Staring with…
