Ben Affleck's Next Project Is Not His Solo Batman Film Posted by: Bill "Jett" Ramey (Follow @BATMANONFILM)
Date: August 20, 2016
I never though 2018 was a realistic release date anyway.
For what you ask?
The solo Batfleck Batflick it is. (Sorry, my grammar there makes it sound like the Howard Stern Wackpacker “Bigfoot” wrote that last line.)
According to THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER, Ben Affleck is in talks to direct and star in WITNESS FOR THE PROCECUTION (based on the Agatha Christie short story) for 20th Century Fox. While the trade’s report doesn’t say it, the scuttlebutt is that this will be Mr. Affleck’s next project after he finishes filming JUSTICE LEAGUE for Warner Bros.
I never thought Mr. Affleck would go straight from JUSTICE LEAGUE to doing his solo Batman film in the first place – which is what he’d have to do to have the film ready for a 2018 release. Affleck is simply too talented – as a writer, director, and actor – to only do “Batman” for a significant length of time. I’ve always figured he’d do something else after JL and before the solo Batfleck Batflick. 2018 might have been the target date for Warner Bros. and fans, but clearly it wasn’t for Mr. Affleck.

Right now, I’m thinking this film will hit theaters in 2019 at the earliest. Plus, Affleck has said he's taking his time with his Batman film as he wants it to be great. So, it coming out in 2019, or even 2020, isn't really a bad thing.
I do have to wonder – and I’m just being realistic, not negative (though this take, well, isn’t that positive) – if this project is in danger of ever coming to fruition. If Warner Bros. can’t get their DCEU going with next year’s WONDER WOMAN (June) and JUSTICE LEAGUE (November), would they pull the plug on the DCEU and opt to go a different route in the future with their DC properties?
Honestly, I think Warner Bros is committed to making Ben’s solo Batman film come hell or high water. Thus, I’m not worried...BUT I've got my *fingers crossed* regardless.
