Of course, Affleck himself has been very coy about this project. He’s said that there isn’t “a Batman film happening yet,” as well basically proclaiming he’ll make THE BATMAN (or whatever it ends up being titled) when he and the project is ready.
In a recent interview with IGN, (while doing press for THE ACCOUNTANT), Mr. Affleck gave us an update on his Bat-Film…
“Last night I spent (time) working on the script. I'm in full-on 'trying to get it right mode.’ It's not the kind of movie that you can fail quietly at. You have to really be sure that I have something that I feel really confident about before we go forward.”
Well, it sounds like more of “I’ll make the film when I’m ready and I’ve got a good script” to me. On the other hand, I’m sure Ben Affleck the director of the project is in sort of a “Nolan Mode” and not wanting to give too much away – even when filming will begin.
On the latest Batman on Film Podcast (which will be released later this week), the entire panel – Rick Shew, Justin Kowalski, Ryan Hoss, and yours truly – believe that filming will indeed begin in 2017 and the movie will be released in 2018. BUT…
I do feel Mr. Affleck is not going to cave into WB’s desire for a new solo Batman film and will indeed begin active production when’s he’s damn good and ready.
However, reading the tea leaves, it looks as if he’s damn good and ready now.
