REVIEW: DARK KNIGHT III #8
AUTHOR: Bill "Jett" Ramey (Follow @BATMANONFILM)
DATE: March 29, 2017

SYNOPSIS: Baal’s Kryptonian army has invaded Themyscira. Wonder Woman and the Amazons will show them why that was a deadly mistake.

All I can say about DARK KNIGHT III: THE MASTER RACE #8 is that there’s only one issue left, thank goodness!

That doesn’t mean I haven’t liked it –I have – but the pace is simply too damn slow to build up any anticipation and momentum.

I believe I’ve been saying this in the reviews of the last few issues, but I’ll say it again: DKIII will be a much better and entertaining read once it’s released as a collected trade. If you haven’t read any of it by now, there’s no need to jump in at this point. Just wait ‘til later this year in September when all nine issues are released together in one book.

There’s not much Batman in this issue, though his “situation” from the last issue is resolved rather quickly (and it wasn’t like we didn’t know what was going to happen, and it's why there can be a DARK KNIGHT IV as Frank Miller says he's planning).

This issue really belongs to Wonder Woman as she leads the Amazons in battle against a mass of Kryptonians. The latter have come to Themyscira to take baby Jonathan – the infant son of Wonder Woman and Superman – in exchange for Quar’s “mercy.”

You think Wonder Woman is going to concede and bow down to anyone?

The ensuing battle looks really cool and evokes Frank Miller’s 300. You would think that the Kryptonians with their super powers would easily mop the floor with the Amazons, armed only with shields and swords, right?

Think again – it’s Wonder Woman! (But I’ll let you discover the outcome of the battle for yourself.)

The next issue – #9 – is the finale of DKIII. I’m not too sure what is going to happen, because we really don’t get much info on what Batman and his Bat-Team’s big plan. But it’s going to involve an attack on Quar and his sons – who have ingested nuclear bombs – involving Batman, Batgirl (which is now Carrie Kelly, remember?), Superman, Wonder Woman…and probably a few other DC superheroes. Where’s The Atom been lately?

Oh yeah, one more thing…

It looks like Batman and Batgirl will be riding in a very sweet vintage Batmobile! - Bill "Jett" Ramey
