I think I've finally figured out what would fix this miniseries.
If it was done in one issue…but in 1947 and written by Bill Finger or Gardner Fox. Sadly, it isn't 1947 and Doug Moench isn't Bill Finger.
This entire miniseries reads like an old school DETECTIVE COMICS plot gone horribly awry.
Dr. Glass AKA “Meat-man/Invisible Man” is still at large. Batman isn't any closer to discovering the identity of our villain. Dr. Glass’ intentions are revealed -- as are Black Mask’s.
This issue is riddled with issues (bad pun). The pacing is bad, the dialogue is downright atrocious, and the plot doesn't go anywhere -- except to explain who Dr. Glass wants to kill. Batman gets some more attention this time around, but who cares now? His thought boxes are so painstakingly written it made me cringe.
The art has the same consistency problems as the first two issues. Kelley Jones is very talented and has a unique style, but it just doesn't seem to mesh well with this story.
I've said it before and I'll say it again -- skip this series. Unless you want to read a story with Bruce Wayne as Batman really, REALLY bad. - Justin Gonzalez
