Set in the same universe of the
BATMAN BEYOND animated show, the
SUPERMAN/BATMAN Annual #4 introduces Terry McGinnis into the greater DCU.
And if you ask me, it's about damn time.
I've always been a fan of Terry and BATMAN BEYOND in general. So it thrills me to see him included in the pages of DC Comics. With that said, on to the review…
When a new drug comes to Gotham from Metropolis, the Terry-Batman is on the case. However, Metropolis is now without Superman. So Batman must help The Man of Steel regain control of Metropolis. And of course, he has the help of the real Batman, Bruce Wayne.
The great Paul Levitz is the writer behind this issue and he does a fine
job of giving this story the same vibe as the BB animated series; in particular, Terry’s dialogue is right on the money. His story seemed a tad condensed for the number of pages, but it wasn't that big of a deal. The story’s spacing was a bit off at points, but again, nothing that took away from this issue’s overall quality.
Renato Guedes does a great job with the art. But there was one part that sorta bugged me. Terry’s going to the Fortress of Solitude -- out
of costume -- and he isn’t wearing any sort of hat/cap. Don’t you think he would’ve covered his head somehow? Whatever, I’m nitpicking.
I quite liked this story and -- as a BATMAN BEYOND fan -- it was an OK introduction for Terry McGinnis into whatever DCU he now existes.
And this annual has definitely got me excited for the upcoming BATMAN BEYOND miniseries.
Apparently, it did it’s job. - Justin Gonzalez
