EDITOR'S NOTE: I'll be stepping in as a "guest reviewer" this month. Ryan Hoss will return to his regular reviewing duties next month with issue #4. - "Jett"

OFFICIAL SYNOPSIS: "Ra's al Ghul goes from hunter to hunted! What is the Council of Spiders, why have they been killing assassins, and who is the Wanderer? After the death of Red Robin last issue, the League of Assassins now must – wait, WHAT? Everything shifts into insane overdrive as the daughter of Wayne Enterprises CEO Lucius Fox completes her quest to find Red Robin, only to get caught up in one of the deadliest games on the face of the planet."

I’ll cut to the chase here: RED ROBIN #3 was one of the worst comic book I’ve read in a while. That’s very disappointing to me because I had – and still have – high hopes for this title, and the last two issues were pretty darn good.

Look, I’m down with the RED ROBINS’s basic premise which has Tim Wayne traveling the globe looking for Bruce Wayne. Actually, I love it since I too want to see Bruce Wayne return and get back to being Batman. I feel that it sort of represents all of the Bat-Fans (including yours truly) who maybe didn’t care much for Bruce “dying” – so we’re sort of living and searching for Batman vicariously through Tim. Anyway…

The overall theme of RED ROBIN isn’t what’s wrong with this issue though, it’s the primary storyline of #3 that, well, sucks.

For one thing, what’s the deal with this barbarian-looking Russian who calls himself “The Wild Huntsman?” A totally uninteresting and frankly stupid part of this issue’s story in my opinion. Oh yeah, that League of Assassins bald chick shows up again. Again, uninteresting as well as unreadable.

Also, is anyone else besides me with Tim feeling sorry for himself/Tim being comforted by some young DCU character? This month, it’s Wonder Girl.

Whatever.

Nothing personal against penciler Ramon Bachs, but there’s absolutely nothing special about the artwork here at all. Tim looking like he’s about eight years old doesn’t help either.

Honestly, I had a hard time getting through this issue. If I wasn’t reviewing it, I don’t think I would have even bothered to finish it.

The only good thing I can say about RED ROBIN #3 is that this deal with Ra’s Al Ghul – Tim accepting his “help” with his search for the real Batman – is interesting and has potential.

The current story arc, “The Grail,” concludes next month, so here’s hoping that it finishes on a positive note -- and RED ROBIN the comic book gets back on track.
