We begin
RED HOOD AND THE OUTLAWS issue #4 in a bar, with Jason and Roy seeking further into the case of “The Untitled.”
A bar fight attracts the attention of a local female police officer, and the two are brought down to the station for questioning. Starfire watches from the sky in case something goes wrong. Something does, but I don’t think its what they expected. A monster known as CRUX makes his (its) move and faces off against Starfire, leading her far away from her teammates. Speaking of, they don’t know it yet, but they will seriously miss her in a few short moments. Back at the station, Jason has gone in alone and ties up the officer so that he can check files at the station. I have to admit, I didn’t expect the next scene to go the way it did. Was I the only one who thought Jason and the cop were about to get naughty?
Well, that’s not exactly how it went down, for those scenes you need to read the Catwoman series. Turns out, the cop Jason has tied up is actually one of the enemy, and she reaches her hand right through his mid section. Roy makes the save with a “copper” arrow.
We then bounce back to more of the Starfire/Crux fight. This segment of their super powered battle gives us some insight into the back-story of Crux. YAWN.
I’m sorry, I just cant get into most of the super powered stuff. I maintain my stance that Starfire does not really have a proper home with Jason and Roy. Anyway, she gets laid out, and mutters a name I wasn’t expecting, though if it’s the guy I think it is, I would love to see him show up in the next issue. Jason and Roy are simultaneously taking on this agent of The Unititled. Roy is sent ahead to find out what happened to Starfire, and Jason is hanging back to take on this creature with a weakness for copper. He pulls two Copper Bladed Swords from his arsenal, and we are left waiting till next month for the full out confrontation.
Overall, the Starfire segments did nothing for me, but Jason and Roy were OK. Not a whole lot actually happened in this issue, so Ill wait and see how things unfold with issue #5. – Tone Purzycki
