SYNOPSIS: More tales of The Dark Knight from legendary creators Michael Uslan and Dave Bullock.
Before I continue with my review of “BATMAN: Silent Knight…Unholy Knight!” - which is included in issue #2 of BATMAN: BLACK AND WHITE #2 - by Michael Uslan (writer) and Dave Bullock (artist), I must put out the following disclaimer…
Mr. Uslan is not only one of my personal Batman on film heroes, but he’s also a friend. I talk to "Mr. U" – as I call him – via email and phone chats from time to time, and I have a TON of respect for him. *deep breath* OK...
During one of our phone visits this past Summer, Mr. U told me about this “silent film Batman comic book story” he had written for DC and was very excited about. While I’m not a big fan of silent films, I’ve always been intrigued about the possibility of a “period” live-action Batman film set in, I don’t know, 1939 maybe? With such a cinematic endeavor likely not to happen, Mr. U’s homage to the creation of “The Bat-Man” and silent films is probably as close and we’ll ever get. Anyway, on with the review…
I won’t spoil the story for you, but I will say that a 1920ish Gotham City has a serial killer on its hand who targets happy families and kills the parents, not the child/children. It appears that The Silent-Knight might be the anti-Batman – you know what I mean? Think The Wrath, but WAY back in the non-Technicolor days.
That’s all I’m going to reveal of the plot. You all will have to read it for yourself to find out how – and IF – The Bat-Man is able to thwart the dastardly deeds of The Silent-Knight.
The review continues after the jump!
“BATMAN: Silent Knight…Unholy Knight!” is a (very) short Batman story – but it’s also (very) cool. The key to getting the full effect of this story as the writer and artist intended is this: Pretend that you’re not reading a comic book, but actually watching an old silent film.
