Terry McGinniss' introduction into the greater DCU continues in
BATMAN BEYOND #2 and it’s a bit of a disappointment quite frankly.
The show was so successful, because it did a great job of distancing itself from it's predecessor. On the other hand, the comic book version is seemingly attempting to integrate it completely. While that is probably a good approach for the book and character in a whole, it feels forced, and out of sync with the show’s premise.
In this issue, Batman continues to search for a killer he believes to be Hush, Bruce Wayne’s old foe. Hush is killing off old D-list Batman villains.
Adam Beechen's writing is quite good and his dialogue between Bruce and Terry is still spot on. And Terry's interaction with the new Catwoman is a funny sequence.
Oh yeah, there's a new Catwoman by the way. No real explanation or reasoning it’s just another way to fill in the gaps between the old and the new.
Overall, issue #2 was OK -- I'll give it a C. I'm hoping this is going to be a good series overall, because I'm a HUGE Batman Beyond fan. But it's taking away the main reason I love Batman Beyond in the first place.
