After
BATMAN AND ROBIN #5, I figured that the title’s second story arc would certainly get better before it ended.
It did not.
As I’m sure you know already, Jason Todd (former Robin and dead person) is back in Gotham as the new Red Hood. He’s even got himself a young protégé/partner known as Scarlett. I’m curious to know if Grant Morrison has a plan for Jason Todd on down the line because I haven’t a clue why he was included in this story arc. I’ve never been a fan of Jason’s return from the dead -- nothing more than another cheap comic book gimmick. Even worse, he’s yet to be portrayed in consistent and interesting manner since his resurrection -- his appearance in Morrison’s BATMAN AND ROBIN included.
The worse thing about this issue was it’s villain -- a PURPLE RAIN-era Prince wannabe called “The Flamingo.” I’ve got no problem with new members being added to Batman’s rogues gallery (like Professor Pyg in the previous story arc), but this dude was just, well, LAME.
On the art front, I still much prefer Frank Quitely's work on this title over Philip Tan's. Quitely's stuff simply seems to fit this title much better.
The saving grace of this arc -- if there even is one -- took place at the very end of the issue. All I’ll say is “Zur-En-Arrh.”
