OFFICIAL SYNOPSIS: "Batman vs. Robin" part 2 of 3! The Dynamic Duo fight it out in the ultimate duel to the finish. Meanwhile, Robin's mother, Talia al Ghul, sends an old adversary of Dick Grayson's to complete the job that her son may not be able to stomach!

I’ve got to hand it to Grant Morrison.

No matter how much I criticized the direction that the Batman books have gone ever since he came on board (first with BATMAN and now with BATMAN AND ROBIN), I can not that these stories haven’t been good and that I haven’t been entertained.

Damn you Grant Morrison, damn you!

Well, it looks as if all the seeds that Morrison’s been sewing since “Batman and Son” are about to be reaped. Finally, all of Grant’s crazy-ass you-know-what is coming together. At least that seems to be the case, but you never know with Morrison.

The plot of BATMAN AND ROBIN #11 focuses on two separate stories . Well three actually, but only two are interesting.

One involves Damien/Robin and Oberon Sexton’s “partnership” ending with Damien himself asking if this character is actually the real Batman. Secondly, we’ve got Dick/Batman down in that “Batcave beneath The Batcave” (that was discovered in issue #10) -- looking for clues that will lead him to the now believed to be alive Bruce Wayne. And finally, there’s that deal with Talia and her MANCHURIAN CANDIDATE-like control over Damien. I’m hoping that this subplot goes somewhere (and it probably will), because it’s not all that interesting as the moment.

So to the main question at hand: Is Oberon Sexton Bruce Wayne? And if not, just who is he?

It appears that we’re fixin’ to find out in issue #12. On the “Next in BATMAN AND ROBIN“ page at the end of the comic, includes an image of Oberon Sexton apparently pulling off his mask to reveal his identity. Of course, this is Morrison doing the writing, so that image might be nothing more than a ruse.

I have some ideas where this may ultimately be heading. Some of my theories make me happy, while some piss me off to no end. I’ll keep them all to myself for the moment, all the while hoping there’s a satisfying conclusion to this Batman saga

GRADE: B+
