Issue #693’s story revolves around the reopening of Arkham Asylum where Dick Grayson is playing the role of Gotham City/Wayne Family socialite. There, Dick is able to keep his eye on the Falcones (who have recently returned to Gotham) and Tommy “Hush” Elliot (who is still pretending to be Bruce Wayne).
Daniel adds a little “romantic drama” to the mix by having The Huntress attend the event as Dick’s date -- with Barbara Gordon joining them playing the role of the third wheel. Is a Dick/Helena/Barbara love triangle going to be a subplot of future issues? We’ll see -- though I personally couldn’t care less.
As such things usually go in Gotham (and when members of the “Batman Family” are around) , the party goes to hell in a hand basket which brings out the city’s Caped Crusaders -- well, at least the ones that were invited to the party.
Daniel also seems to be making an effort to include the events of the other Bat-Books -- albeit vaguely -- into BATMAN. Not that I want a return to the 1990s practice of having one storyline carried out in all the Batman comics, but at least there’s a sense of continuity here.
Two issues into Daniel’s run on BATMAN things are looking good. It certainly appears that he has a plan and he knows where he wants to go story-wise and I’m definitely interested.
