JANUARY: The villain “Electrocutioner” makes his debut in BATMAN #331.

MARCH: The 500th issue of DETECTIVE COMICS is celebrated in, well, DETECTIVE COMICS #500. In one of the issue’s stories, “To Kill A Legend,” Batman and Robin travel to another Earth (with the aid of the Phantom Stranger) and prevent the murder of Thomas and Martha Wayne. Does this also prevent young Bruce Wayne from becoming The Batman in this alternate world? Without giving away the details, it seems that no matter what, Bruce Wayne was destined to be Batman.

MARCH: The Penguin’s origin is finally revealed in BEST OF DC BLUE RIBBON DIGEST #10 (“Secret Origins of Super-Villains”).

JETT REMEMBERS
Like 1980, this wasn't a big "Batman" year for me. The only Batman comic I remember buying and reading (and still have in my collection) was DETECTIVE COMICS #500. - Bill "Jett" Ramey
