SYNOPSIS: After tangling with a new – and female – foe, The Batman’s discovers that his utility belt has been stolen. With the belt now in the hands of this “Catwoman,” The Dark Knight has to catch a thief before she uses the belt for her own nefarious purposes.
REVIEW: The firsts for THE BATMAN continue. In “The Cat and The Bat,” we meet Selina Kyle, AKA Catwoman.
Man, that title really fooled me.
The synopsis pretty much gives away what this episode was all about. Catwoman – who the police believe to be an associate of The Batman – manages to steal Batman’s utility belt, leading to all sorts of hilarious hijinks. Such as taking control of the Batbot and trashing the Batcave. She also commandeers the Batmobile and forces Batman to chase his ride through the streets of Gotham on the Batcycle.
Hahahahahaha! Oh Selina, you funny, funny feline!
THE BATMAN's Selina Kyle/Catwoman
in "The Cat and The Bat"
OK, I’m kidding here, because I actually liked this episode – and THE BATMAN’s version of Catwoman – quite a bit.
In this series, Selina is a high society charity fundraiser by day, cat burglar by night. Her costume is very similar to the one the character currently wears in the comic books – except that the ears are much bigger and her orange-tinted goggles give her a “cat eyes” sort of look. Like the Catwoman in BATMAN RETURNS this version also carries a whip – which she carries around her waist and hangs like a “tail.”
Aesthetically and characterization-wise, well done here.
As far as the storyline for “The Cat and The Bat,” The Batman and Catwoman play their classic game of sexual tension and mutual attraction, albeit it on the level of a Saturday morning cartoon. Though The Batman doesn’t like the fact that both the media and police think they’re in cahoots, they do sort of partner up at the end.
Overall, a good episode. In fact, it’s one of the very best of this series’ first season.
