Whatever the sequel to MAN OF STEEL will ultimately be titled, it will definitely be one of the top films of 2015. Even though we’re basically two years away from the film hitting theaters, those two years will flyby and the film will have come and gone before you know it!
Below you’ll find a BvS primer that lays out what to expect and when to expect it when it comes to the production of the film. Email all BvS/MOS2 questions via JETT@BATMAN-ON-FILM.COM. Enjoy!
What do we know for sure?
JETT SAYS: Well, not all that much to be honest. However, we do know…
* Zack Snyder and David Goyer are returning as director and writer respectively with the former helping out on the film’s story.
* It’s really a sequel to MAN OF STEEL with most of that film’s major players – Henry Cavill as Superman/Clark Kent, Any Adams as Lois Lane, Diane Lane as Martha Kent, and Laurence Fishburne as Perry White – are returning.
* Like it or not – and I do personally – Ben Affleck is playing Batman/Bruce Wayne (and he’s probably going to write and direct the next solo Batman film too).
JETT SAYS: Not much – at least for the rest of the year. I’m sure we’ll get some more casting announcements and the film’s official title between now and the end of the year. That’s about it except for maybe some info on where they will be filming. Don’t expect any news between Thanksgiving and New Year’s as Hollywood basically shuts down for a month and a half for the Holidays.
When will filming begin?
JETT SAYS: Early 2014. Like MAN OF STEEL and “The Dark Knight Trilogy,” I’m quite sure it’ll be a long shoot. It will also most likely require a lot of post work. So, the earlier they start filming in 2014 the better.
When will we get the first poster?
JETT SAYS: Spring 2014.
“When will the first trailer be released?”
JETT SAYS: Summer 2014 and probably in July around the time of San Diego Comic Con. I also suspect it’ll be a teaser trailer as opposed to a full-on film trailer.
“Should we worry about spoilers?
JETT SAYS: Yes, definitely. In this day and age with all the social media and instantaneous news, spoilers are sadly unavoidable. However, you can limit how much you’re exposed to this sort of stuff by being prudent when it comes to where you surf the Net. Some sites – like BOF – will not post spoilers PERIOD. On the other extreme, some sites will post anything without giving a damn that they are spoiling a film for readers…and themselves.
“When do you think we’ll get our first look at Ben Affleck as Batman?”
JETT SAYS: Soon. Well, if you count early in 2014 soon. I suspect that Warner Bros. will release a publicity still of Mr. Affeck in full Batman gear as soon as filming commences next year.
“Do you think there will be a viral marketing campaign for the film?”
JETT SAYS: Possibly and probably likely. However, I don’t think we’ll get one that’s anywhere close to the level of the one for THE DARK KNIGHT back in ’07 and ’08.
“When will the marketing and promotion of this movie really kick into gear?”
JETT SAYS: I believe that BATMAN VS. SUPERMAN will begin to be shoved down our throats when the first full trailer is released at the end of 2014. Once 2015 gets here, marketing and promotion of the film will slowly, but consistently, build into a Tsunami come Summer of that year.
“What can we expect from BOF?”
JETT SAYS: You can expect the BEST – and totally spoiler-free – coverage of this film just like you all received during BOF’s coverage of “The Dark Knight Trilogy.” BOF is able to deliver a unique insight and point of view into this movie that few, if any, can deliver. Why? BOF is the ONLY fansite that will be granted such close access to the project. So, you can look forward to images, trailers, set visits, cast and crew interviews, and MUCH more between now and July 17, 2015!
