Goyer recently talked a little about Chris Nolan and his take on Superman in MAN OF STEEL. If you thought the first trailer for the film (see below) looked a bit like 2005's BATMAN BEGINS, it's probably safe to say that it wasn't a coincident. Check out what Goyer had to say about MOS's “naturalistic approach."
"What Christopher Nolan and I have done with Superman is try to bring the same naturalistic approach that we adopted for the [DARK KNIGHT TRILOGY]. We always had a naturalistic approach, we want our stories to be rooted in reality, like they could happen in the same world we live in. It’s not that easy with Superman, and actually this doesn’t necessarily mean we will make a dark movie. But working on this reboot we are thinking about what would happen if a story like this one actually happened. How would people react to this? What impact would the presence of Superman in the real world have? What I really like to do is write ‘genre’ stories without a cartoonish element. I did the same with DA VINCI'S DEMONS and with MAN OF STEEL.”
Right on bro! When...not IF...this film is a huge next Summer, you can bet your bottom dollar that this franchise -- including star Henry Cavill -- won't be hijacked for this ill-advised Justice League film. And if I were Warner Bros., I'd hire David Goyer as the "Creative Consultant" for all their DC Comics-based films. Hell, FOX hired Mark Millar to do the same for their Marvel properties, why not Goyer -- a major creative player behind THE DARK KNIGHT TRILOGY and now the Superman reboot -- to do the same for DC on film at Warner Bros.?
