Here's a few quotes from Superman himself -- Henry Cavill -- about MAN OF STEEL and playing, well, The Man of Steel via ...
* “There’s no better feeling than to get [the call that I got the part of Superman]. Actually, I was at home when the phone rang. It was an unknown number and I ignored it, then looked down and saw it was Zack Snyder. I was like ‘Oh my God!’ and he’d hung up at that stage. Fortunately, he called back.”
* “What I can say [about this take on Superman] is that it’s a modernization of the character and a very realistic view of one, obviously, very fantastic individual. It’s an unreal situation, but it’s approached from a very practical viewpoint. We wanted to make the character easier to identify with.”
* “It’s important to do the role [of Superman] justice. There are a lot of people relying on me to do this well. I gladly accept that responsibility, and it’s a great one to have because it’s a wonderful opportunity. I don’t let the pressure get to me because that’s going to hinder my performance and therefore, let people down. So I choose to ignore the pressure side of it and focus on doing justice to Superman.”
Good stuff from Mr. Cavill! While I LOVE The Batman, Superman as always been my "Number 2," if you will. In fact, SUPERMAN: THE MOVIE is STILL one of my favorite films of all time and the primary reason that I dig the hell out of live-action comic book films. I SO pulling for MOS to kick ass and I hope it's the launching board for one hell of a Superman on film trilogy -- just as BATMAN BEGINS was for Batman on film. Also, I'm 100% on board with a Superman film that comes from a "realistic" POV. How would the people of Earth react if an damn-near invincible flying alien showed up out of nowhere and proclaimed here was "here to help?"
Here's hoping that my friends at Warner Bros. doesn't hijack Zack Synder's Superman and force him into a Justice League film before "Team Synder" gets a chance to tell Clark Kent's story as they see fit. (Thanks to "Myk M." for the heads up!)
