This is one of the worst-kept secrets in Hollywood.
But now it's official.
Per DEADLINE, Warner Bros. is fast-tracking a MAN OF STEEL sequel with Zack Snyder returning to direct and David Goyer back on board to script.
What isn't known is how much Syncopy -- Chris Nolan and his wife Emma Thomas (and others, of course) -- will be involved. According to the report, Chris' involvement won't be as "full blown" as it was with MOS -- which he helped write (story, not the screenplay) and actively produced. As a self-anointed "Nolan Whisperer," I'm sure they'll be back as producers, but Mr. Nolan won't be involved nearly as much as he was with MOS.
The report also says that Goyer's deal with Warner Bros. is for three films -- MAN OF STEEL, a MOS sequel, and some sort of team-up film. Personally, I think Warner Bros. would be better off doing a "World's Finest" film first which pairs up Henry Cavill's Superman with a rebooted cinematic Batman. (Warner Bros., are y'all listening?) Anyway...
As someone who has seen MAN OF STEEL three times as I write this report (read my MOS review HERE), this news makes me happy as hell. Of course, I'm still leery of seeing Batman in a live-action film with superpowered beings -- except Kal-El, I'll make an exception for the Man of Steel -- I think I'll ultimately be OK with it since Snyder and Goyer are the filmmakers behind it.
And to think, the first Superman movie -- err, Kal-El movie -- has yet to hit theaters!
MAN OF STEEL flies into theaters on JUNE 14, 2013! CLICK HERE for all of BOF's MAN OF STEEL coverage.
