Will the BvS Teaser Trailer Finally Drop This Week? Posted by: Bill "Jett" Ramey (Follow @BATMANONFILM)

This week, Jupiter is ascending.
Will Batman and Superman (and Wonder Woman) be descending into theaters along with it?
We shall see.
Now keep in mind the idea of a trailer being “attached” to a film isn’t like it was 10 years ago – much less 2 years ago. A studio can release a trailer online – or even on TV – whenever they want. Of course, trailers are still shown in theaters, but most people today see a film’s preview via the Net.
BOF first reported last Fall that the first teaser trailer for BATMAN v SUPERMAN was ready to roll (and Forbes.com’s Mark Hughes confirmed it in the lastest BOF PODCAST). At that time, I speculated that it might drop with THE HOBBITT: THE BATTLE OF THE FIVE ARMIES in December since it was, for all intents and purposes, a Warner Bros. film.
And when it didn’t…and everyone loses (lost?) their minds! (Well, not everyone, but the usual suspects did.)
Since it didn’t drop along with the aforementioned HOBBIT flick, we’ve got two likely candidates: JUPITER ASCENDING and MAD MAX: FURY ROAD premiering on February 6 and May 15, 2015 respectively. So here’s the deal…
BvS’s March 25, 2016 release date is tricky and throws a bit of a monkey wrench into the release of teasers and trailers based on over a decade of precedents (starting with BATMAN BEGINS in 2005). Traditionally, a teaser would come a year out; the first full trailer a half year-ish away, and a “final trailer” a month or two out from release.
If the first teaser is released with JUPITER ASSCENDING, that would be about 13 months out – just a month longer than the traditional one year in between-ness, if you will. On the other hand, attaching it to MAD MAX would give us our first official look at BvS less than a year – 10 months – from release.
So, what’s the answer to the question at hand? Will the first teaser drop with JUPITER ASSCENDING in February, or MAD MAX three-plus months later?
BOF was told by our BvS spoilerless scooper, Shoeless,” that the trailer would premiere in May along with the release of MAD MAX. Of course, there have been other outlets saying it’s coming with JUPITER ASSCENDING. My guess – and what I suggest that you all expect – is that it’ll drop in May. If it comes earlier – like later this week – let’s consider ourselves lucky and enjoy it.
