Solo Batfilm with Batfleck in 2018?

If you’re a longtime reader of BOF, you know that I’ve long believed and said as much on this site that Ben Affleck will star in a solo Batman film and most probably direct it. In fact, I’d say just about everyone has assumed that ever since it was announced that Affleck was the new Batman on film. Furthermore, my sources have speculated that this film would be released in either 2019 or 2020. Other than that, I’ve heard nothing about the solo Batfleck Batflick.

Now, according to “Da7e” over at LATINO-REVIEW.COM, Affleck’s solo film – allegedly titled THE BATMAN – will be written by Chris Terrio (who wrote BATMAN v SUPERMAN and will script both JUSTICE LEAGUE movies), directed by Ben Affleck (nothing new here), and be released in November of 2018.

My take? Here goes…

I 100% believe that Affleck will indeed star in and direct his solo Batman film. It wouldn’t surprise me in the least if Chris Terrio (along with Affleck) writes the script. I think THE BATMAN would be a very cool title. BUT…

I don’t know if I’m buying the November 2018 release date. With JUSTICE LEAGUE, PART 1 coming in November of 2017 and JUSTICE LEAGUE, PART 2 hitting theaters in June of 2019, when the hell is Affleck going to have time to make a solo Batman film? If you’re directing a film as big as a Batman movie, it’s basically a two year job from start to finish. Let’s “do the math” and see if it’s at least feasible…

1) Affleck shoots JL1 sometime in 2016 and perhaps into 2017.

2) Affleck shoots JL2 at some point during 2018.

To me, this means he would have to go immediately from shooting JL1 to working on THE BATMAN. Furthermore, pre, production, and post would have to be completed before he goes to work as Batman on Zack Snyder’s JL2. Frankly, I don’t know if that’s enough time for him to both star in and direct THE BATMAN. The timeframe for him to do it is clearly less than two years and he would very likely be doing nothing professionally other than Batman for roughly three years plus straight.

According to IMDB.COM, Affleck is currently in pre-production on LIVE BY NIGHT in which he is both starring and directing. Other than that, there's nothing on his future agenda other than the JL films.

Looking at it that way, I’ll concede that it’s feasible, but I don't think it's likely. Look, I may be wrong and I frankly hope I am. For me, the more Batman on film the better.

So, what do you all think? Is November 2018 a good and realistic release date for solo Batfleck Batflick #1? Why or why not? Post your take in the comments section below!
