While I’m a big fan of
BATMAN: THE BRAVE AND THE BOLD’s, opening sequences, the one at the beginning of “Triumvirate of Terror!” was just a big too silly for me.
Come on! A baseball game pitting The Justice League International against The Legion of Doom with play-by-play coming via Jimmy Olsen? Sorry, that’s just too goofy for my tastes. Anyway…
When it comes to this episode’s main story, I’m sure a lot of fans will get a kick out of it as it’s the first time DC’s Trinity -- Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman -- star in an episode together. And if you’re gong to have The Big Three, I guess it’s only natural for them to take on their archenemies -- The Joker, Lex Luthor, and The Cheetah respectively.
Tired of consistently getting their butt’s whipped, “The Triumvirate of Terror” decide to switch adversaries hoping that a change of scenery will lead to better results. Thus, we get The Joker vs. Wonder Woman, The Cheetah vs. Superman, and Lex Luthor vs. The Batman.
Initially, it looks as if the ‘ol switcheroo will lead to success as each villain finds a way to defeat their “new” foe. However, leave it to The Dark Knight to provide the one weapon that will ultimately take out the Triumvirate: jealousy.
While The Joker, Luthor, and The Cheetah are busy infighting, our heroes break free of their deathtrap and defeat the bad guys.
Like I said previously, I think many folks -- especially those who are fans of the entire DC Universe -- will dig this episode. In that aspect, it doesn’t disappoint. I liked it, but I wouldn’t list it under the “Awesome!” category.
Personally, I could have done without seeing DC’s three greatest heroes sit down at a diner for burgers and shakes, and that baseball game opening was a bit of an eye-roller. However, finally seeing DC’s Trinity on this series was rather cool. When weighing the good and the bad, the good is heavier.
One last not on coolness, I think that most Bat-Fans will get a kick out of the mention of “Julie Schwartz and Frankie Miller,” as well as the less than subtle nod to KINGDOM COME.
