Michael Uslan on RISESPROLOGUE/Trailer #2 "Bane's Voice = Permawhite Joker" Posted by Jett on Tuesday, December 21, 2011
I know there are MANY “Let’s Break It All Down!” articles when it comes to both the PROLOGUE and trailer #2. Consequently, I’ve received a TON of emails asking me to do the same. Truth be told, I can not for many reasons. However, I’ll be flapping my gums more come 2012!
Check out Michael Uslan's short, but spot-on, reaction to the PROLOGUE and trailer #2 RIGHT HERE. BOF can always count on MU and his friendship when it comes to anything "Batman."
Check out BOF's Mark Hughes' latest TDKR article over at FORBES.COM.
Apparently, "I Can't Understand Bane!" is the new "The Joker Is Permawhite!" To be fair, I'll give this THR's HEAT VISION article some run here on BOF. While I had no issue with Bane's voice in the PROLOGUE, I totally get why some folks do. Regardless, I still think it's much to do over nothing, as many of the people that seem to be complaining about it have yet to see the PROLOGUE! I'm sure everyone understood Bane when he said...
"When Gotham's...ashes...you have my permission to die".
Check at BOF's Chris Clow's new "THE DARK KNIGHT RISES Countdown" article over at MOVIES.COM.

"Fire Rises!" - Package From Gotham City! Emma Thomas Was Right: RISES Trailer #2 IS Awesome! Posted by Jett on Thursday, December 15, 2011
Is Bane trying to recruit Batman fans like me? CLICK HERE or on the image below for more details!
At the press screening of THE DARK KNIGHT RISES PROLOGUE, producer Emma Thomas told me that trailer #2 for the film would be coming next week -- which is now this week -- and that it was "awesome." Well, she was right as I've seen it -- and I'm not talking about that crappy cell phone-filmed bootleg that's currently making the rounds. As BOF told you back on October 31st, the new trailer will be attached to SHERLOCK HOLMES 2 (and it is, trust me) this coming weekend. I figure it'll be online at the OFFICIAL TDKR SITE before the end of the weekend.
More "Nolan Speak" from RISES PROLOGUE Press Screening Posted by Jett on Tuesday, December 13, 2011
Want to plug my friend Jim's short interview with Chris Nolan and Emma Thomas (also from the RISE PROLGUE press screening) which you'll find over at IGN.
Warning! Audio from the RISES PROLOGUE has leaked online. I've heard it and it is legit. However, the quality is horrible and doesn't do it justice at all. Don't cave in and listen as you will negatively affect seeing it fresh on the big screen either now or next Summer. Also, Warner Bros. is pulling them down as fast as they can anyway.
Great Nolan on RISES Interview "Young Talia Al Ghul" in RISES Posted by Jett on Monday, December 12, 2011
CLICK HERE to check out a damn good interview by Geof Boucher with director Chris Nolan which took place at the PROLOGUE press screening we all attended last Thursday. Here's a short excerpt...
"It was pretty emotional as we would finish these characters and say goodbye to Alfred for the last time and say goodbye to Commissioner Gordon and eventually, with Christian, fairly close to the end, saying goodbye to Batman...it was a big deal. And with these newer characters too, finishing with Anne and all these guys. It was quite touching, I must say.”
I too asked the director -- as well as producer Emma Thomas and screenwriter Jonathan Nolan -- if they were going to miss Batman and all three told me that they would indeed. Anyway, click on the link provided to read the entire article.
Per THE SURRAY COMET, young actress Leilah De Meza was offered, and turned down, the role of "Young Talia Al Ghul" in THE DARK KNIGHT RISES. Why? The role required her to shave her head. It seems that Joey King eventually nabbed the part.
This is no surprise -- it's actually expected -- as we know Josh Pence is playing Ra's Al Ghul as a young man in the film.

TDKR Viral Continues - "Operation Early Bird" Jerry Robinson Passes Posted by Jett on Thursday, December 8, 2011
The viral campaign for TDKR continues over at @thefirerises. So, what's "Operation Early Bird?"
As we all know, THE DARK KNIGHT RISES is it for this group of Batman on film actors and filmmakers. Here's what Gary Oldman had to say (via CRAVEONLINE.COM...
"For us I think it's the end. Whether [Warner Bros.] will make more, my guess is probably. I mean, they don't have POTTER anymore. So, there could be a 'Batman 4' and '5.' It may be Chris overseeing it in a producorial position, but for us and for Chris I think that's it. It's a great way to go out though. It's a great story. Epic, epic thing it is."
Actually Gary, the next one will be "Batman 1, Vol. 3."
Sad news BOF'ers.
I just got a text from Michael Uslan informing me that the great Jerry Robinson -- the creator of The Joker -- passed away in his sleep.
Jerry Robinson January 1, 1922 - December 7, 2011
So sad to hear this news! However, I am glad that I attended the "Spotlight on Jerry Robinson" at Comic Con 2010 couple of years ago and got to meet him.
I'll have more on this later here at BOF. In the meantime, there's a great feature on Mr. Robinson by HERO COMPLEX's Geoff Boucher. and you can check it out HERE.
My condolences go out to his family, friends, and all Batman fans as well.

Hans Zimmer Talks TDKR Score Posted by Jett on Saturday, December 4, 2011
COLLIDER.COM has a cool interview with Hans Zimmer. Here's a quick blurb from the composer about the score and the use of the fan's chants on it (Click on that link if you haven't recorded yours yet!)...
"You always want to create a sound that nobody has ever heard, but I think, this time, we might be doing that. As a musician, I think about what environment things are recorded in. Now, you have hundreds of thousands of voices, all recorded in their own individual environment. Up until now, that’s been impossible to do. There’s a lot of people doing a lot of editing, as well."
Visit COLLIDER.COM for the full interview. (Thanks to BOF's Josh Costella for the heads up!)

Paul Franklin Tweets TDKR Prologue Info Posted by Jett on Sunday, November 27, 2011
Paul Franklin, THE DARK KNIGHT RISES' visual effects supervisor, tweeted the following this morning in regards to the film's Prologue...
I highly doubt that Warner Bros. will release the Prologue online, so if you really want to see it, you'll need to locate an IMAX theater near you -- one with 70mm projection and not digital. (Thanks to "Josh C." for the heads up!)
UPDATE: Paul added the following: "Here's a list of IMAX theatres worldwide. Features projector type - TDKR prologue is 70mm 15perf, 1570 on the key: lfexaminer.com/theaintl.htm." You can use that link to find the proper IMAX theater near you.

Bale: TDKR is the End of an Era Nolan Talks Bane Posted by Jett on Friday, November 25, 2011
Wow. This is most I've heard about TDKR from anyone yet! No spoilers or details about the film, but good stuff from Christian Bale nonetheless. >>> CLICK HERE FOR THE FULL STORY!
Via DEADLINE.COM (and originally/exclusively in EMPIRE MAGAZINE), here's what director Chris Nolan had to say about the choice of Bane as the villain of RISES...
"With Bane, we are looking to give Batman a physical challenge that he hasn’t had before. With our choice of villain and with our choice of story we’re testing Batman both physically as well as mentally. Also, in terms of finishing our story and increasing its scope, we were trying to craft an epic, so the physicality of the film became very important. Bane’s a very different kind of villain than Batman has faced before in our films. He’s a great sort of movie monster, but with an incredible brain, and that was a side of him that hadn’t been tapped before."
Just wait, this is only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to RISES publicity/marketing...trust me. ;)

Why No "Occupy Wall Street" in TDKR Posted by Jett on Thursday, November 17, 2011
A few weeks ago, there was a rumor that Team Nolan would include the "Occupy Wall Street" protests while filming RISES on location in New York City.
It didn't happen.
Why? Let Matthew Modine -- who plays "Nixon" in the film -- tell you (via INDIEWIRE.COM)...
"The wisdom of Christopher Nolan and his incredible team was that, while it seemed like a good idea to give [the protestors] an opportunity for work, to give them money, it would send a terrible message. At the end of the day, we're making a movie. What's happening down there is more important than that. To co-opt what's happening there and around the country...we didn't want to trivialize it. It was more important to respect what they're doing than to do anything that could potentially trivialize the political situation downtown."
And that is that.

JGL Says TDKR Has Wrapped...Kinda Posted by Jett on Tuesday, November 15, 2011
"Everyone [on the set] is really excited about what we're making because everyone knows we're making something good. We're not just doing it for a paycheck, we're not just punching the clock, everyone really cares about the movie, and that always makes it way more fun to do."
Cheers JGL. Anyway...
It seems that principle photography on RISES has wrapped. I asked "A.P." earlier today, and he wasn't sure. Via the aforementioned JGL's Tumblr Page, he's saying (while sporting a rather cool Batman cap) that it's "...a picture wrap" -- which I guess is "cool" for 1) "The film I've been shooting since June has now completed filming, OR 2) "My work is DONE on this long-ass shoot!"
Regardless, it seems that TDKR has finished filming -- THANK GOODNESS! Now we can get on with the "real fun" and enjoy the film's marketing and promotion and not have to worry about spoilers and having the film ruined for us in any way, shape, or form...maybe. Ugh.
My interview with Lee Bermejo (BATMAN: NOEL) is up and you can check it out HERE.
Possible TDKR "Spoilers" Hit Net Posted by Jett on Monday, November 14, 2011
FYI: A couple of, ahem, "spoilers" have hit the Net over the weekend that you might want to avoid if you don't want to read that sort of crap. One involves "The Prologue" and it sounds like total pure poppycock to me -- especially when you take into account that it orginates from a message board.
(Yeah, there’s nothing more reliable than a post that comes from an anonymous poster on a internet message board -- especially the one where this BS, err “news” originated.)
The other involves Joseph Gordon-Levitt's "John Blake" and Matthew Modine's "Nixon" characters and how they fit into the film's plot. This one sounds to me like something just about anyone could surmise pretty easily based on 1) what's been released officially and 2) all the illicit set pics and video.
"Big" TDKR Scene Filming Today (11/12) in NYC Posted by Jett on Saturday, November 12, 2011
Our old friend "A.P." (Not that he's old age-wise, he's a longtime "FOBOF!") emailed in this morning to inform us of the following NYC filming detail -- which I will black out for those who might consider it a spoiler...
*"They're filming the big bridge scene today!*
Hopefully spy pics and video will be at a minimum -- which I think may be the case based on where they are filming.
I don't plug BOF's comic book reviews here all that much, but I'm going to make an exception for this one. My friend Lee Bermejo is both the writer and artist on a fantastic Bat-Graphic Novel titled BATMAN: NOEL. Check out our review HERE by Sean Gerber (from MODERNMYTHMEDIA.COM). In addition, Lee was kind enough to chat with me once again and I'll be posting that interview on BOF shortly. By the way, have you all ever seen Lee's "realstic" versions of The Joker and Two Face he did exclusively for me back in '06? Great stuff.
TDKR Prologue Rated PG-13 Posted by Jett on Thursday, November 10, 2011
According to CHUD.COM, THE DARK KNIGHT RISES' prologue will be rated PG-13. While that's no surprise, it's the closest thing to something "official" we've seen yet.
TDKR Filming is about to End... That's BOTH Good and Bittersweet Posted by Jett on Wednesday, November 9, 2011
Yes, I’m still here and still covering THE DARK KNIGHT RISES. *wink*
With TDKR finishing up its filming in New York, there’s been tons of spoilerish video and pictures everywhere on the Net as expected, FYI. Out of context? Certainly. But “spoilers” nonetheless to all the folks who don’t want to see that stuff until they see the film next Summer. Anyway…
For me -- as one who’s held their ground on this sort of stuff since filming began WAY back in the Spring -- I’m damn glad that filming is coming to an end.
For one thing, we won’t have to worry about being bombarded with all of these spoilerific pics and video any longer And secondly, the end of principle photography means the REAL FUN is about to begin -- especially for me and all the loyal readers of BOF…trust me!
On that note, I want to say “THANKS!” to all the loyal BOF’ers out there -- many of which who’ve been with me since day one -- for your nice emails, support, and loyalty. With that said, I’m looking forward to celebrating the conclusion Team Nolan’s Batman on film trilogy with all of y’all!

Heads Up! Spoilerish TDKR in NYC Pics TDKR Trailer #2 with SHERLOCK HOLMES 2? Posted by Jett on Monday, October 31, 2011
Thank goodness filming is almost over. With TDKR filming on location in New York City, some spoilerish pictures have made their way onto the Net and have been picked up by several outlets. If you are avoiding anything remotely "spoilerish," consider yourelf warned.
BOF has been "unoffically" told that the second trailer for THE DARK KNIGHT RISES will be attached to SHERLOCK HOLMES: A GAME OF SHADOWS -- which is also a Warner Bros. film. SH2 is being released on December 16th. While this makes sense, I've got to wonder if they will actually release a trailer the same weekend as the "TDKR Prologue" which will allegedly will be shown in front of IMAX screenings of MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE - GHOST PROTOCOL. I'll post more info once it becomes available...which should be shortly.
UPDATE: Several BOF'ers sent in emails reminding me that both the prologue and trailer #2 for THE DARK KNIGHT did indeed hit theaters the same weekend back in '07. Looks like we got a couple of cool things to look forward to in about a month and a half! (Hey Warner Bros.! How about some new official pics to tide us over 'til December 16th?)
THE BOF MAILBAG has been updated. -- "What's the future of Batman on film?"
Michael Uslan recently participated in a THE BOY WHO LOVED BATMAN book signing/THE DARK KNIGHT screening at his alma mater, Indiana University. Check out BOF's report HERE (via BOF'er "RRB.")

CLICK HERE or on the image below to check out a short interview with Jonathan Nolan talking a little about THE DARK KNIGHT RISES -- specifically the trilogy coming to an end.
According to a several NYC BOF'ers, Trump Tower is being used in TDKR's Big Apple shoot.
A "front" for Wayne Tower perhaps? Anyway...
With some winter weather expected in NYC this weekend, perhaps they won't have to use all that fake snow and actually fake being cold this time. Ha! (Here's hoping it doesn't screw up filming though.)
TDKR Filming in Newark, NJ Next Week Posted by Jett on Thursday, October 27, 2011
According to the NJ.COM, THE DARK KNIGHT RISES will be filming in Newark, New Jersey next week -- November 3rd and 4th -- and will include one day of filming at City Hall. Here's an excerpt...
"There will be extensive traffic delays in the area around City Hall and Downtown Newark along McCarter Highway, Market Street, Raymond Boulevard, Broad Street, Mulberry Street, Halsey Street, Washington Street, and University Avenue, due to street closures and the re-routing of buses."
It was rumored earlier in the year (and reported here on May 28th) that Newark might be a shoot locale for TDKR while filming in the NYC area. CLICK HERE FOR THAT REPORT.
TDKR is in NYC Posted by Jett on Wednesday, October 26, 2011
Team Nolan and the TDKR cast and crew are in New York City to finish up filming of THE DARK KNIGHT RISES. There are several reports online where filming is taking place, so no need to post it here. Also, if you are avoiding spoilers, I'd suggest that you watch where you surf the Net over the next couple of weeks as all the filming in on location.
According to a Warner Bros. rep (via EW.COM), Nolan and co. will not be filming in NYC's Zuccotti Park and have no plans to use the "Occupy Wall Street" protests as a backdrop for the film.
With filming soon to wrap, the marketing and promotion of the film will definitely ramp up. BOF has some cool really cool stuff coming (some of which I've been sitting on) throughout 2012 'til the film's July 20th release, so stay tuned!
TDKR Prologue Coming in December...CONFIRMED...Sorta Posted by Jett on Monday, October 24, 2011
AMC THEATERS is confirming that the prologue for THE DARK KNIGHT RISES will indeed be included with MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE - GHOST PROTOCOL beginning December 16th. But here's the deal: the prologue will only screen at 70mm IMAX screens and not at digital IMAX locations. Stay tuned to BOF for more details. (Hopefully...maybe...BOF will be getting an early look at it.)
UPDATE 3: According to the folks over at Warner Bros., there is nothing official when it comes to a prologue for THE DARK KNIGHT RISES. Now that doesn't mean there isn't one at all, they're simply in "No Comment" mode.
UPDATE 2: AMC has POSTED A RETRACTION saying the following: "The information in this post has been retracted until further notice. Please refer to Warner Bros. for any information about THE DARK KNIGHT RISES." Not sure what that means and I have contacted Warner Bros., but I figure I'll get a "No Comment."
TDKR Prologue Coming in December...Maybe Posted by Jett on Wednesday, October 19, 2011
Now this is AWESOME news!
SLASHFILM.COM is reporting that Warner Bros. and Chris Nolan plan to attach an eight minute prologue for THE DARK KNIGHT RISES to all IMAX prints of MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE - GHOST PROTOCOL this December. Of course, a prologue to THE DARK KNIGHT featuring The Joker was released back in December of 2007, so it looks as if they are planning something similar for what's probably the most anticipated film of 2012. For the full story, click on the link provided.
Make sure to check out BOF's own Chris Clow's latest TDKR/"Batman-in-General" update on MOVIES.COM. As always, great stuff.
Yes, I was VERY "B:YO-Heavy" of late no doubt about it. But did you think BOF wouldn't be covering it? Anyway, you can find all of my coverage of the film RIGHT HERE. So, what did you all think of it?
TDKR & Wall Street Protests? Cillian Murphy on Possible TDKR Cameo Posted by Jett on Tuesday, October 18, 2011
Per THE LOS ANGELES TIMES, when Chris Nolan rolls into New York City shortly to finish filming of THE DARK KNIGHT RISES, he may use the "Occupy Wall St." protests going on in Zuccotti Park and Midtown Manhattan as a backdrop for his final installment of his Batman trilogy. The two week NYC shoot begins on October 29th. For the full story, click on the link provided.
While promoting his new film IN TIME, Cillian Murphy was asked by BBC RADIO 5 LIVE if he would be reprising his role as Dr. Jonathan Crane, AKA "The Scarecrow," in the upcoming THE DARK KNIGHT RISES. "Listen, I am not going to contribute to the rumors or speculation that are out there," he said. "I think the film itself will be amazing." So how does Murphy know that TDKR will be so good? "The film is going to be extraordinary because that's what Chris Nolan makes: extraordinary films."
Well played Cillian, well played. Nolan has taught you well.
Personally, it wouldn't shock me if he did show up in Chris Nolan's third and final Batman film. Since The Scarecrow had a major role in BEGINS and a cameo in THE DARK KNIGHT, it sort of makes sense for Murphy to don the burlap sack one last time.
Brown Joins TDKR Cast Eliza Dushku Talks B:YO & CATWOMAN Posted by Jett on Saturday, October 15, 2011
Per VARIETY.COM, Rob Brown (COACH CARTER, FINDING FORRESTER ) has joined the cast of THE DARK KNIGHT RISES in an unspecified role.
THE DARK KNIGHT RISES is still filming in LA, so more spoilerish pics and video have been posted on the Net and then spread like dropping a match in a gasoline-soaked dry hayfield. If you are avoiding this stuff, FYI.
(A BRIEF EDITORIAL: If my friends at Warner Bros. had been a bit more proactive -- like releasing a better image of Catwoman, Bane in full costume, and a damn picture of Batman's new Bat-Vehicle -- all of the spy pics and video we've seen since June would've been rendered worthless. I'm just sayin'...)
Yes, BOF is still in full-on BATMAN: YEAR ONE promotion mode! If you are interested in Eliza Dushku talking B:YO/CATWOMAN, 3 new images of Selina/Catwoman from B:YO, and a "sneak peak" of CATWOMAN, CLICK HERE (or on the image below)!

And if you're going to New York Comic Con, Warner Home Video will present a DC Universe Animated Original Movie panel at New York Comic Con on Friday, October 14th. Among those participating are executive producer Bruce Timm, dialogue/casting director Andrea Romano and the perennial choice of Batman, Kevin Conroy. The panel, slated for 3:00-4:00 p.m. in the IGN Theater, will feature the premiere of both the Paul Dini-scripted CATWOMAN animated short and the trailer for the upcoming film JUSTICE LEAGUE: DOOM, as well as discussion of those two projects and BATMAN: YEAR ONE.

BATMAN: YEAR ONE Preview Clip #2 BOF MAILBAG: "Viral Marketing for TDKR?" Posted by Jett on Thursday, October 6, 2011

Also, I've received by screening Blu-ray copy of the film, so be looking for it shortly here on BOF.
So, will there be a viral marketing campaign for THE DARK KNIGHT RISES like the one for THE DARK KNIGHT? That's the topic of the latest BOF MAILBAG - Question of the Day.
Juno Temple: Working on TDKR is... Massi Furlan joins TDKR Cast Posted by Jett on Monday, October 3, 2011
CLICK HERE to see a video interview with Juno Temple and what she says it's like to work on THE DARK KNIGHT RISES and on a Chris Nolan film.
According to MONSTERSANDCRITICS.COM, Italian actor Massi Furlan has joined the cast of Chris Nolan's THE DARK KNIGHT RISES in an unspecified role.
FYI: More illicitly-taken and spoileri-ish images and video of TDKR filming can be found on several sites on the Net. Of course, this gotten to be a "same stuff, new day" sort of thing. And with filming lasting nearly two more months, I don't see it ending -- especially in New York where all filming will take place on location.
Jonathan Nolan Talks TDKR Posted by Jett on Friday, September 30, 2011
Here's a short blurb about THE DARK KNIGHT RISES from screenwriter Jonathan Nolan (via IGN)...
"You know, Chris loves to shoot on these IMAX cameras, these massive cameras. As soon as you release something in the theaters, like a trailer, people go in and they record it with their iPhone or a camera, and they put it online. But when we first released that IMAX prologue for THE DARK KNIGHT, the image was so big that no one could record the whole thing with their camera. So you have one YouTube video of the top half of it and another YouTube video of the bottom half. I think the goal with those movies and the thing that Chris is doing and just kicking ass with is making a movie so big that you couldn’t possibly fit all of it. Even in tiny little pieces, you still wouldn’t get a sense of the scale of it. I saw a little bit the other day, and the scale is just vast."
Basically what he's saying is that despite the number of illicit TDKR leaks/set pics/etc., it's almost impossilbe to get a true look at what the film is all about simply based on what's popped up online. While I totally agree, I'm also positive that the filmmakers are not happy about how much has leaked online. And now they are having to deal with folks breaking NDA's and script leaks. Sadly, it's only going to get worse as the film gets closer to release, trust me.
Speaking of Jonathan Nolan, I got to meet him back in '08 and can say he is a tremendously cool guy. HERE is a roundtable interview I did with him and David Goyer back then for THE DARK KNIGHT.
FYI: Possible MAJOR TDKR Spoilers Online Posted by Jett on Thursday, September 29, 2011
It’s possible that a few MAJOR TDKR SPOILERS have leaked online and they are NOT anything you’d want to know if you are avoiding ‘em.
Apparently, this info is coming from some dubious online message boards via an individual who broke a NDA. It was then picked up and reported as “news” by the (ahem) “usual suspects,” and then picked up by several legit online outlets. Anyway…
I know what it is, and I wish I did not. If you’re reading this report, then there’s a good chance that you’re one of the few folks (it seems) that want to see THE DARK KNIGHT RISES uncorrupted. Therefore, HEADS UP!
In regards to this kind of BS, my good friend Kris Tapley (His great "In Contention" website is now a part of HITFIX.COM) has an interview with JGL -- who plays "John Blake" in this little film called THE DARK KNIGHT RISES -- in which he says the following A-Hole spoiler hounds...
"It's cool that people are excited about the movie. I'm excited about the movie. And I would be really excited if I weren't in it. I get why people are interested. But sometimes it can be a little weird because we try really hard to get the details right and make a great experience for the audience. And then when other shots that aren't, like, how we want to present them, or shots that we wouldn't want to be presented to the audience sort of get out there, it can be a little, 'Oh well.' The truth is I feel like audience members will probably enjoy the movie a lot more if they avoid those types of spoilers."
Translation: "A lot of people need to get a F'n life!"
You can check out Kris' full interview with JGL ("Joseph Gordon-Levitt," actually) for 50/50 tomorrow on HITFIX.COM.

Wow. The freak-out over the "look" of Anne Hathaway's Catwoman continues...and it's addressed in the latest BOF MAILBAG QOTD.
Yes, I KNOW -- Bootleg Pics of Catwoman Online Posted by Jett on Monday, September 26, 2011
FYI for those of you avoiding SPOILERS! There are several bootleg pics of Anne Hathaway as Catwoman -- taken while TDKR was filming in LA this past weekend -- all over the Net. If I were you, I'd wait 'til WB releases the next set of official Catwoman publicity stills. Those are way, WAY better, TRUST ME.

Rumor: TDKR's Finale Will Be VFX-Heavy BATMAN: YEAR ONE Preview Clip #1 Posted by Jett on Wednesday, September 21, 2011
According to a report on LATINO REVIEW, the ending sequence of THE DARK KNIGHT RISES will be very VFX-heavy. In additon, the ending is so secret that only 5 people (including Chris Nolan) even know what it is. You can click on the link provided for the full story. I'll go ahead and hit it with a SPOILER! tag, but I don't think it's too revealing -- though the report does include an image of the film's new Bat-Vehicle.
Speaking of this new Bat-Vehicle, I'm pretty sure it's going to end up being what I thought made the most sense when it came to Batman having something that flies. If you're a longtime reader of BOF, you know what I'm talking about. And COME ON WARNER BROS.! Release an official image of this thing already! Crappy pics of it taken during filming are all over the Net for crissakes! Come on now, it's time!
A new BOF MAILBAG QOTD has been posted. Who is JGL really playing? I've got the "answer!"
Hey, it's BATMAN #1. It's probably a once in a lifetime thing for all of us, so I figure I'd post BOF's review of it -- by the great John Bierely -- HERE.
JGL: "I Can't Have This Conversation" Tom Hardy Talks (very little) TDKR Posted by Jett on Monday, September 19, 2011

Oldman: TDKR is "Very Special" Posted by Jett on Friday, September 16, 2011
Gary Oldman -- who plays Commissioner Jim Gordon in the BATMAN BEGINS/THE DARK KNIGHT/THE DARK KNIGHT RISES trilogy -- recently said the following about TDKR (via LOVEFILM.COM)...
"I can’t tell you anything about it, I’m sworn to secrecy! It’s a terrific script, it’s a great storyThere was obviously a bit of pressure on Chris to make another one, but he can call the shots now, and I don’t think he’d have made a third for the sake of it. He really wanted to complete what’s, I guess, the trilogy. And he’s come up with something very special."
I just love Gary Oldman and he's one of my favorite BEGINS/TDK/TDKR peeps -- both in front of and behind the camera -- I've had the chance to meet.
After a nearly month-long break, the "BOF MAILBAG QUESTION OF THE DAY" is back. Truth be told, too many of the questions I get ask me things that I can not and will not reveal.
With DC's "New 52" in full relaunch mode, BOF has expanded its reviews of the monthly Batman Family titles, and you can check them out HERE.
Honestly, this is a great time to get on the bandwagon -- especially now that each comic is being released digitally the same day as the traditional print versions. Truth be told, I'm totally hooked on buying my comics in the digital format HERE. (And no, that was not a "paid advertisement,” OK? I’m simply jumping on board the future NOW.)
JGL Talks Nolan & TDKR Posted by Jett on Thursday, September 15, 2011
Joseph Gordon-Levitt -- who plays GPD officer John Blake in THE DARK KNIGHT RISES talks about the film (sorta) as well as the greatness of director Chris Nolan (via USA TODAY)...
"I can tell you that one of the things I admire most about Mr. Nolan is that he understands that the story begins before the movie does. He's already telling the story that he's got cooked up. He's a master storyteller. Every little bit of information he lets out, he does it at the proper time. Far be it for me to preempt the rhythm of his. I love that people are excited about it. I guarantee, as an audience member, one will have the best experience if one just trusts him."
So what sort of question is he responding to? What do you think? He was asked what he could tell the USA TODAY reporter about TDKR.
Well played JGL, well played.

MC Says She's Not TAG Bale & Hathaway on LA Set Posted by Jett on Thursday, September 8, 2011
(Thanks to all the fine BOF'ers -- Yes, YOU -- for the heads up!)
MTV's SPLASH PAGE has posted 2 new images of Christian Bale and Anne Hathaway on the on-location TDKR set in Los Angeles. I don't consider them to be spoilers, thus they are here. To see the pictures in full, click on the link provided above or on the thumbnail image below.
According to DEADLINE.COM, Adam Rodriguez has joined the cast of TDKR in an unknown role.
My friend Jim over IGN MOVIES has put together a nice article titled "Why Tom Hardy Will Kick Ass as Bane." Click on the IGN link and give it a read! And I concur with the author that the group of fanboys who think Tom Hardy isn't "big enough" to play Bane are nuts.
Juno Temple is Holly Robinson? Spoilerish TDKR Pics Filtering Out of LA Posted by Jett on Monday, September 6, 2011
According to a report on DARK HORIZONS (Heads up -- potential SPOILER! pics on landing page), "...the writer of an interview with Juno Temple in a recent issue of TOTAL FILM says that her character looks likely to be that of Holly Robinson. Temple however neither confirmed nor denied."
Back on March 24, 2011, BOF (and others, I'm sure) speculated that Temple would be Holly -- Selina Kyle's young friend/sidekick on YEAR ONE -- when she was cast earlier this year.
FYI: I haven't seen anything on the spoiler level of the stuff that came out of Pittsburgh, but there are some pics filtering out of LA from TDKR's downtown shoot. If you are avoiding SPOILERS!, heads up and be careful of where you get your online movie news. (I've already saw one pic of Anne Hathaway filming a scene that I wish I had not.)
BIG TDKR Stunt Set Up in LA Posted by Jett on Sunday, September 4, 2011
A HUGE stunt involving tons of cars -- sorta -- has been set up in Los Angeles in front of the 3rd Street tunnel. I don't see this as being very spoilerish, but I'll hit it with a SPOILER! tag anyway and suggest those avoiding everything to not click on THIS LINK or on the image below. (Thanks to my friend @LEOQUINONES for the heads up!)

The Batcave Returns?! Posted by Jett on Tuesday, August 30, 2011
According to a report in WALES ONLINE, Henrhyd Waterfall in the Neath Valley of Wales will serve as The Batcave in THE DARK KNIGHT RISES.
I can tell you two things: 1) The Batcave is in TDKR, and 2) The set for it is in Los Angeles, not Wales. However, I don't doubt that said waterfall was filmed and will be used as the "entrance" to Batman's underground headquaters in the movie (see BATMAN BEGINS).
Has TDKR news slowed down enough for you all of late? With production taking place in SoCal in the Los Angeles area, I don't expect anything near what we saw in terms of info, pictures, video, etc. coming out of Pittsburgh -- and that's a GOOD thing. In fact, I suspect it will be like this for the remainder of filming....hopefully.
"Bats Are Nocturnal!" - A TDKR SoCal Shoot Update Posted by Jett on Saturday, August 27, 2011
Here's a short and non-spoilerish report (via BOF'er "Philip C.") on the TDKR filming currently taking place outside of LA in Southern California...
"Hey Jett! Filming began tonight at the Xx Xxxxxx, CA location. I know your a non-spoiler site, so I won't divulge any info. I do have some set pics I can send your way. I consider them non-spoilerish, but some of it is more of the same [I already sent you]. Anyway, just giving you the heads up. Security has been really cool about letting us watch filming (from far away, mind you), as long as we didn't take any pics or video. Of course, all of us were willing to miss out on pics so that we could see some the cool things going on. Anyway, filming will continue her through Sept 1st. I seriously doubt any major spoilers will come out of this shoot -- this is DEFINITELY not Pittsburgh and security is extremely tight."
Good to hear that they are filming again at night! I'll post a few of his pics later once I see them and make sure they don't reveal anything.
UPDATE!CLICK HERE (or on the image below) to check out 5 non-spoilerish pictures from the SoCal set.

BATMAN '89/BATMAN RETURNS Double Feature in Santa Monica Posted by Jett on Monday, August 22, 2011
There will be a double feature screening of BATMAN '89 and BATMAN RETURNS on September 23rd at 7:30 PM (Pacific Time) in Santa Monica at the Aero Theatre. For details, CLICK HERE.
Prior to the B89/BR screening, the great Michael Uslan will be signing copies of his memoir, THE BOY WHO LOVED BATMAN (HERE is my recent interview with Michael for the book -- which is GREAT!) at the Every Picture Tells a Story shop and gallery at 6:30 PM. HERO COMPLEX's Geoff Boucher will be interviewing Michael on stage before the first film. Cool stuff!
I guess I can sneak in a quick bit of TDKR news here. I've been told that location filming will be taking place this coming weekend. I won't say where out of respect for the filmmakers.
TDKR Wraps in Pittsburgh Posted by Jett on Sunday, August 21, 2011
The Pittsburgh location shoot of THE DARK KNIGHT RISES has wrapped.
It’s once again safe to surf the internet without having to worry about stumbling upon spoilerish set pictures and video of the film…eh, probably not. Anyway...
Production of TDKR will now move 2,400 miles west to Los Angeles. BOF was told a while back that most of the filming here will be done on soundstages -- although there will be some location filming as well. Principle photography will wrap in the early Fall in New York City.
It only has about 5 seconds of "Catwoman Talk," but CLICK HERE (or on the image below) to see Anne Hathaway's recent appearance on THE DAILY SHOW. Is Catwoman a hero or villain in TDKR? Perhaps she lets that detail slip...
TDKR Heinz Field Shoot Pics Posted by Jett on Saturday, August 20, 2011
If you want to check out several -- and I mean SEVERAL -- pictures taken during THE DARK KNIGHT RISES' shoot at Pittsburgh's Heinz Field, you can do so RIGHT HERE. I went through 'em all, and I don't consider any of them to be a major spoiler. HOWEVER, if you are avoiding anything that's even remotely spoilerish, I'd suggest you pass.

Anne Talks Catwoman on CHELSEA LATELY Posted by Jett on Friday, August 19, 2011
Upfront, I’m going to hit this with a SPOILER! tag -- but really it’s not that spoilerish, trust me. Here are a couple of links of what’s going on with the TDKR shoot in Pittsburgh via my friends at CBS PITTSBURGH. So here are the links: "TDKR Digs A Hole in Dowtown Pittsburgh" and a story on the 8/17/11 Pittsburgh Shoot. Again, I don't think there's much of anything that's really "spoilerish," but just in case, DO NOT visit those stories if you're avoiding all of such stuff. Cheers BOF'ers!

TDKR SoCal Set Location? BOF's Talking TDKR on the Radio Posted by Jett on Saturday, August 13, 2011

Bat-Vehicle SPOILER Alert! Posted by Jett on Friday, August 12, 2011
BOF has long told you that there were whispers that a new Bat-Vehicle will be introduced in THE DARK KNIGHT RISES and it now seems that that rumor is coming to fruition. So heads up folks! There be SPOILERS! out there in the form of pictures that I think reveals the new Bat-Vehicle.
TDKR in Pittsburgh - SPOILERS, They Will Be A-Coming! Posted by Jett on Monday, August 8, 2011
A SPOILERS! heads up. There are some BIG and IMPORTANT scenes that will be filmed in Pittsburgh shortly. Consequently, there will be video and pictures of all this online -- but not here AT ALL on BOF, I promise. If you are avoiding this sort of stuff (and frankly, I'm pretty sure that Team Nolan hates all this getting out), just wanted you all to know that IT'S COMING.
LOL! I see a pretty, ahem, "interesting" assertion about Selina Kyle's characterization/backstory is making the rounds. My repsonse: Whatever! Also to all you people emailing me and asking if that first promo shot of her on the Batpod features an "incomplete" or "not fully formed" Catwoman. That IS the fully formed Catwoman, OK? Anyone claiming anything otherwise is full of it. However, DO NOT read too much into that one picture, OK? Trust me on that.
And finally, but still on the topic of Catwoman, check out the latest MODERNMYTHMEDIA.COM PODCAST in which the panel discusses that first promo Catwoman image. As far as the BOF PODCAST, we are recording one this coming weekend to to mark the halfway point of the filming of THE DARK KNIGHT RISES.

1st Official Image of Catwoman! Posted by Jett on Friday, August 5, 2011
A quick FYI: There are some spy pics of Anne Hathaway/Female Stuntwoman on the set of TDKR in full costume as Catwoman riding the Batpod. Luckily, WB released this official image overnight and rendered such pics pointless. Now THAT'S what I've been talking about!

While I still consider them to be SPOILERS!, the images from the set via Getty Images are indeed legit. Therefore, I’ve posted a few HERE if you’re interested in checking them out. Keep in mind that I did hit that link with the SPOILERS! tag and I do know many of you will not want to see these at all as you want to stay clueless as possible until you see the film next Summer. Heads Up! BIGTIME Spoilers Online! The "New" Tumbler New BOF MAILBAG Posted by Jett on Sunday, July 30, 2011
I told y’all so.
I warned the other day that once THE DARK KNIGHT RISES began to film on location in Pittsburgh, pictures would be taken that would be tremendously spoilerish and show the actors (Bale, Hathaway, and Hardy specifically) in full costume.
Guess what? That’s EXACTLY what happened on the first day of filming! Case in point: There's a picture of Tom Hardy as Bane out there that not only shows him in full costume, but is very spoilerish in terms of the plot.
Therefore, a BIG heads up for all of you reading who are avoiding spoilers and set pictures as there are some doozies out there!
(RANT: Frankly, while I’m not surprised that this is happening, I am quite shocked about how much is being revealed. Come on now, can we tighten up the security a bit?! Here’s an idea: How about a preempted strike and release some official images that will negate a lot of the impact of these spy set pics? Sheesh!)
I'm going to hit the following link with a SPOILER! tag as an FYI. You can check out a report with images of the first day of TDKR shooting in Pittsburgh via POST-GAZETTE.COM.
Again, a SPOILER! warning will go along with this link. If you want to see a pretty good shot of the "new" Tumbler (which is really the "old" Tumbler) CLICK HERE!

HEADS UP! With the production of THE DARK KNIGHT RISES moving to Pittsburgh, I suspect that the chance for illicit/crappy photos of the cast and SPOILERS! are likely possibilities. Yep, It's Going to "Snow" in Pittsburgh! Posted by Jett @ 1:50 PM on Wednesday, July 27, 2011
Pittsburgh Prepping For RISES (& A Memo to Warner Bros.) TDKR Set in the Fall/Winter? Posted by Jett @ 8:00 AM on Wednesday, July 27, 2011
According to several BOF sources, as well as Pittsburgh area BOF’ers, The Steel City is being prepped for the upcoming filming of THE DARK KNIGHT RISES. It seems that several areas of the city will be closed down so filming can take place on location a la Chicago in 2004 and 2007 for BATMAN BEGINS and THE DARK KNIGHT respectively. That means that it’s very likely that cast members will be in costume outside and crappy cell phone pics and video of them can be snagged and posted online.
Therefore, here’s hoping that Warner Bros. will be preemptive and release images of Catwoman, Batman, and any new Bat-Vehicle that will be used on the streets (or in the air over) of Pittsburgh.
I've got to wonder if THE DARK KNIGHT RISES will be set during the Winter? Folks who are extras in Pittsburgh are emailing me saying that they are being told to dress as if were the Fall/Winter. Also, back on February 8th, BOF got a scoop from our 'ol friend "A.P." telling us the following...
"And so it begins! They are doing a plate shot in a helicopter over New York City this week. Apparently, Chris Nolan wants to get the city with snow on the ground."
It'll be interesting to see if there's any "snow" on the ground when they shoot on location in Pittsburgh here shorly.

Michael Uslan…”The Godfather of the Modern Comic Book Move.”
As you all know, I’ve been covering Mr. Uslan’s upcoming memoir -- THE BOY WHO LOVED BATMAN -- quite closely here on BOF. This weekend at the San Diego Comic Con ‘11, Mr. MU was there to promote his book, as well as hang out at SDCC like any other comic book fan. Much to my surprise, I was privileged to receive an early copy of the book by Mr. Uslan himself which included a very, Very, VERY nice personal message from the author.
Presently, I’m about 90% through the book and will post a review of it on BOF very shortly. All I’ll say right now is that if you -- like Michael -- love Batman, you’ll DEFINITELY want to pick up this book. Truth be told, MU’s memoir touched me deeply and I KNOW it’ll do the same for all of you reading this right now.
Shout out to FJD...Good to see you bro!

Judge Joins THE DARK KNIGHT RISES Cast Animated THE DARK KNIGHT RETURNS Film Coming in 2012 Posted by Jett @ 7:52 AM on Saturday, July 23, 2011
Christpher Judge has joined the cast of THE DARK KNIGHT RISES per his Twitter account (via COSMICBOOKNEWS.COM).
At the premiere of BATMAN: YEAR ONE last night at SDCC '11, Bruce Timm announced that THE DARK KNIGHT RETURNS will get the PG-13 animated movie treatment. It'll be released as a two-part animted film in 2012 -- which probably means at least one part will coincide with the release of the live-action THE DARK KNIGHT RISES.
I'll have more on BATMAN: YEAR ONE's premiere and presser (I talked to stars Ben McKenzie and Katee Sackhoff, and well as producer Bruce Timm, voice director Andrea Romano, and co-directors Sam Liu and Lauren Montgomery) here on BOF shortly.

THE DARK KNIGHT RISES Is Going to College! The "New" Batmobile" is in Pittsburgh Posted by Jett @ 1:08 PM on Thursday, July 14, 2011
My good friends over at LATINIOREVIEW.COM has a July 9, 2011 post saying that once in Pittsburgh, TDKR will shoot scenes at Carnegie Mellon University in late July and early August. For the full story, hit the link provided. I am going to stick a SPOILER! tag on this report, though I believe it to be a "minor" one which describes what sort of scenes will be filmed.
Heads up! Shots of the "new" Batmobile being shuttled to Pittsburgh have shown up online. While I won't post them here, I'm sure they'll be easy to find online if you are interested. I will say that I wouldn't call it a big spoiler at all.
THE DARK KNIGHT RISES Is Wrapping in the UK Trailer Online Monday? Posted by Jett @ 6:41 AM on Thursday, July 14, 2011
According to multiple BOF sources led by "BB," THE DARK KNIGHT RISES is wrapping up the UK shoot today at the "Old Royal Naval College."
Via several sources and online reports, the trailer for TDKR will be released online this coming Monday (7/18). I know that hindsight is 20/20, but if I were Warner Bros., I would have released that trailer online along with the poster. Why? Well, it would have made a bootleg irrelevant and we probably wouldn’t have gotten any either. BUT...
It's not TOO LATE my Warner Bros. peeps! Get that badboy out there ASAP and head 'em off at the pass. You KNOW after POTTER (Which is really good BTW) hits at midnight, bootlegs are going to be EVERYWHERE. I'm just sayin'.
BATMAN: YEAR ONE Trailer, Details, & SDCC '11 Info Posted by Jett @ 3:43 PM on Wednesday, July 13, 2011
Thanks to my friends at Warner Bros., click on the image below for details on BATMAN: YEAR ONE as well as info on the World Premiere at SDCC '11 next week. Cheers!
Can't WAIT for this film! So, how many of you BOF'ers are going to the premiere? See you there...
Yes, I know some jackhole filmed the TDKR trailer and put it online -- I DID get all of your emails, texts, Facebooks, and Tweets. Cheers!
The TDKR Trailer #1 IS Coming (But will it be with HARRY POTTER?) Posted by Jett @ 7:47 AM on Tuesday, July 12, 2011
We all know that the first teaser trailer for THE DARK KNIGHT RISES IS indeed coming and coming soon. We all assumed (including yours truly) that it would be "attached" with the July 15th release of HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS, PART 2. But here's what BOF'er "EC" emailed into me...
Hey Jett. Long time BOF reader here. I work as a projectionist and I thought you'd like to know that the rumored trailer for THE DARK KNIGHT RISES is NOT attached to HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS, PART 2. The trailer is not included on the POTTER hard drive -- SHERLOCK HOLMES 2 is the sole inclusion. It is possible that the trailer will be included with the weekly trailer drive that every theater receives, but these days, when you hear that a trailer is going to be "attached" to a film, it generally means it would be included on said feature's hard drive. Especially in cases where the two films in question are produced by the same studio, as is the case with HP & TDKR. It COULD very well end up on the weekly trailer drive, but I wouldn't hold my breath. From my experience I'd say there's about a 10% chance it shows up on POTTER this weekend.
As I said last night (see below), there were two trailers shown prior to POTTER at last night's press screening: SHERLOCK HOLMES 2 and HAPPY FEET 2. I'd absolutely hate it if anyone of y'all would go to POTTER (Which is quite good actually -- review coming soon!), plop down your $10 -- or whatever it costs for a movie nowdays -- just in hopes of seeing that TDKR trailer and it's not shown. My advice is that if you really don't want to see POTTER, just wait because the traier WILL be online.
On a related note, the first teaser poster/one sheet was released by Warner Bros. last night and BOF posted it RIGHT HERE!
UPDATE! Just got an email from a longtime, movie industry "FOBOF" with the following message...
THE DARK KNIGHT RISES. Trailer? COMIC CON."
Comic Con in San Diego is next week (July 21-24) AND the first teaser for THE DARK KNIGHT did come out around Comic Con time back in '07. I'm still hoping we see it before the end of the week, but with Comic Con approaching quickly, perhaps WB will wait 'til then. Some sort of viral game during the Con leading to the reveal? Before/after the screening of BATMAN: YEAR ONE Friday night?
UPDATE 2! Well, I just don't know WHAT to think! I've got several emails from BOF'ers who work at theaters telling me that they do have the TDKR teaser and that it's "encrypted" -- whatever that means -- and they have paperwork showing the teaser will be shown with POTTER. Something to prevent some rogue theater worker from possibly running it and getting a video copy perhaps? Anyway, here's my suggestion: DON'T go see POTTER just for the chance to see TDKR trailer. If it's with this film and will be shown in theaters this weekend, it'll be online virtually simultaneously.
1st TDKR Teaser Poster! Posted by Jett @ 10:25 PM on Monday, July 11, 2011
OK, just back from the HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS, PART 2 press screening and they DID show two trailer for upcoming Warner Bros. filsm prior to the movie. One for SHERLOCK HOLMES 2 and the other was for HAPPY FEET 2.
No damn teaser for THE DARK KNIGHT RISES was shown at tonight's screening. Boo! I still think it'll be here by the weekend...
On a positive note, Warner Bros. did release the first teaser poster for the film and you can check it out HERE or on the thumbnail below.
TDKR Teaser Trailer Coming This Week Posted by Jett @ 9:25 PM on Monday, July 11, 2011
Yes, I know that I made a sorta snide comment last week about reports that the first teaser trailer for THE DARK KNIGHT RISES would be attached to HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS, PART 2. While I was being a bit of a wisenheimer, the comment was intended to be way more tongue in cheek than smart-alecky. But that’s beside the point…
BOF has long heard -- and reported -- that the most likely spot for the first trailer for TDKR would indeed come in July ‘11 along with the last POTTER movie. And since that particular film opens this coming Friday (July 15th), we’re going to know soon enough!
A couple of things. One, if it does come with POTTER, then Warner Bros. will also release it simultaneously online. Secondly, I’m seeing POTTER tonight, so if I see it at the press screening, I’ll give you all a rundown of it ASAP. Keep in mind that trailers are rarely shown at press screenings.
UPDATE!ALBERTAFILMRATINGS.COM has just posted info for THE DARK KNIGHT RISES' "Trailer #1." It's running time is listed at 1:26. As I said earlier, if I see it tonight at the POTTER screening, I'll post a description ASAP. (Thanks to BOF MESSAGE BOARD member "Rashad" for the heads up!)
SPOILER Heads Up! Posted by Jett @ 12:00 PM on Saturday, July 9, 2011
FYI folks! There's a new TDKR report making the 'rounds that could be considered a MAJOR SPOILER. All I'm going to say is that it involves Tom Hardy's Bane character. If you're doing your best to avoid any and all such info that could impact your TDKR enjoyment next Summer, watch out!

Hans Zimmer Talks (A Little) TDKR Score HEADS UP! Illicit Set Pics, Rumors Online & More Posted by Jett @ 11:00 AM on Tuesday, July 5, 2011
Here's a few blurbs from Hans Zimmer about his upcoming work on the score for THE DARK KNIGHT RISES...
* "Chris and I do work really well together. He is my guardian angel when it comes to my music. He protects it tremendously and makes sure it gets heard."
* "I've been listening to a lot of Verdi lately. And Alison Goldfrapp, and a lot of electronica as I'm heading into DARK KNIGHT territory again."
* "I've been in the studio trying out ideas. I'm embarrassingly far advanced. I sent Chris some stuff the other day and he thought it was really unusual that I wasn't holding the whole thing up. Of course I'll try to make it different, but I'm not going to abandon the musical language of the previous film. It's a matter of knocking down some walls and making it broader, wider and more epic."
For the full interview, visit BBC NEWS. (Thanks to "MP" for the heads up!")...
Sadly, it seems that another batch of illicit images from the on-location set of THE DARK KNIGHT RISES have popped-up online. BOF's Mark Hughes says that they are a "4" on a spoiler scale of 1 to 10. In addition, a rumor about a potential TDKR cameo is floating around. I came about it by accident via an innocent, but still prohibited post on the BOF FACEBOOK FAN PAGE. FYI on both accounts...
MUCHO props to Gene Ocampo for designing and creating the new logo for BOF that you see above! You can check out Gene's work and portfolio HERE.
Accident on TDKR Set Posted by Jett @ 7:00 AM on Tuesday, July 5, 2011
There was an accident on the set of THE DARK KNIGHT RISES in Scotland while practicing for an upcoming stunt. Due to spoiler-ish details, I'm not going to post the specifics of what happened here other than to say that the stuntman is OK. If you want to read the details of what happened, you'll find the report HERE. FYI, SPOILERS! are found in this report. (Thanks to "MP" for sending in the link!)
Hardy Talks TDKR Security, Nolan TDKR Stunt Report Posted by Jett @ 6:00 AM on Friday, July 1, 2011
Hardy doesn't say much, but the look on his face when he talks about Nolan is sorta funny. Click on the link provided or the image above to view...
I'm going to preface this link with a SPOILER! warning. It's not too revealing, but may include some info that many of you all might not want to know -- including some details about the "Big Stunt" I've been alluding to of late. Anyway, BBC NEWS has posted a story about a few stunts taking place in the UK for TDKR.
UPDATE! Scottish BOF'er "Batfleece" sent over a scanned image from a UK newpaper of the story above. It's not too spoilerish, but I'm going to hit it with a SPOILER! tag and recommend that you skip it if you are avoiding them altogether.
Yet ANOTHER TDKR Pittsburgh Extras Casting Call! New BOF Op-ed: "A Story Worth Telling: A Rant on Spoilers" Posted by Jett @ 6:00 AM on Thursday, June 30, 2011
Alrighty Bat-Fans -- especially those in the Pittsburgh, PA area -- this is your chance to be in THE DARK KNIGHT RISES! CLICK HERE FOR THE DETAILS! I think I'm going to book travel and head up to Pittsburgh for this event as it's too cool to pass up. See y'all there! (Thanks to "Brad S." for sending over the link!)...
Lots been made of TDKR spoilers of late -- especially here on BOF since we HATE them. So BOF's Gregg Bray has added his 2 cents on the topic in a new BOF OP-ED...
And finally (maybe, but probably not), BOF's Chris Clow has just posted his latest TDKR update over at MOVIES.COM. Make sure you check it out!
Update on "The "Big Stunt in Scotland" Posted by Jett @ 6:06 PM on Wednesday, June 29, 2011
Scotland's FOBOF says that the previously reported "Big Stunt" for THE DARK KNIGHT RISES will still take place...somewhere...maybe.
I hope like hell that all this hem-hawing around and dis-information will keep people away while they carry out this stunt. In fact, I just got some "inside info" that it will take place around Sabine Pass, Texas. Shhhhh!
Another TDKR Pittsburgh Casting Call Posted by Jett @ 5:51 PM on Wednesday, June 29, 2011
It's been a while since I played, but it hasn't been since I last coached football. Perhaps Paul Dekker is the Head Coach of one of these teams? Good luck!
A BOF INTERVIEW: Michael Uslan, THE BOY WHO LOVED BATMAN Posted by Jett @ 11:00 AM on Wednesday, June 29, 2011

Anne's Catwoman Costume, Training Posted by Jett @ 9:00 AM on Tuesday, June 28, 2011
I hesitated about posting this “scoop” as I don’t think it’s really a scoop and it’s actually something that’s rather obvious. (And we’re about to get a look at it officially, so I hear.) Anyway, according to HOLLYWOODLIFE.COM, Anne Hathaway’s Catwoman costume will not look like anything we’ve seen on screen previously, and get a load of this, it’ll actually look and function like the one currently worn by her comic book counterpart.
Wow! Who would have thought that Catwoman might actually look like, well, Catwoman?!
And speaking of Anne and Catwoman, here's a brief description of how she prepared for the role via HARPERSBAZAAR.COM (Thanks to "Jorge M." for sending the link!)...
Anne's preparation for her role as Catwoman in Christopher Nolan's THE DARK KNIGHT RISES, the next Batman installment (currently filming in Pittsburgh), has been more than cosmetic. She has been working out five days a week -- rigorous exercise and stunt training followed by an hour and a half of dance. "I've always thought that skinny was the goal, but with this job I also have to be strong," she says.
One last time for the folks who JUST.DON'T.GET.IT...
BOF DOES NOT report SPOILERS, OK?! In any way, shape, or form. Period. End of story. No discussion. I know what's going on. I've seen the pictures and video and get them from folks everyday via email. However, I'm not going to post anything that might compromise the film for anyone.
A BIG TDKR Stunt Filming in Scotland? Posted by Jett @ 8:00 AM on Monday, June 27, 2011
The following could be considered a SPOILER, so do not click on the following link if you are avoiding them...
Per STV.TV, a HUGE stunt for THE DARK KNIGHT RISES may take place in Scotland on the "A9 road" if given permission by Scottish authorities. If you want the full story, click on the link provided. If you are avoiding SPOILERS, then I suggest you skip it.
6/28/11 UPDATE! One of BOF's sources in the UK has confirmed yesterday's report (see above) about the "Big Stunt" taking place on the "A9 Road" in Scotland. Apparently, the production got the OK and things seem to be ready to go. I'm also going to assume that since this is indeed such a big stunt, images of it will show up online. So again, heads up if you are avoiding SPOILERS.
Pittsburgh TDKR Extra-Casting Update! (Video) $ New BOF Mailbag! Posted by Jett @ 2:44 PM on Saturday, June 25, 2011
Not much in terms of THE DARK KNIGHT RISES news, but HERE IS A VIDEO NEWS REPORT from WPXI in Pittsburgh about the casting of local extras for the upcoming shoot. Still no word on Crazy Quilt as of yet (*sigh*). Thanks to BOF'er "Matt S." for the heads up -- cheers brother...
A Misc BOF Update Posted by Jett @ 2:29 PM on Friday, June 24, 2011
Apparently, production on THE DARK KNIGHT RISES is rolling along quite smoothly and rather quietly actually. Well, except for that BIG spoiler that was unfortunately revealed not long ago (@$#%*!!!!!). Anyway…
A few little birdies have told me to tell y’all “Heads Up!” Keep your eye on the OFFICIAL SITE and go see that last HARRY POTTER in July…
Now this is cool! I shall be interviewing the GREAT Michael Uslan on Monday (6/27) and we’ll be chatting about his upcoming book, THE BOY WHO LOVED BATMAN: A MEMOIR. One of the benefits that BOF has afforded me is being to call Mr. Uslan a friend. Stay tuned to BOF for the interview with the Godfather of Comic Book Movies...
Thanks for all the email of late! I shall have a few new BOF MAILBAG installments shortly -- and I just may address a few 'Hatemails" which is ALWAYS a blast! Also, don’t think you can’t EMAIL ME non-Batman on film questions, OK?
Caine: TDKR Script is "Extraordinary" Posted by Jett @ 9:18 AM on Tuesday, June 21, 2011
In a recent interview (FYI: If you are avoiding spoilers, DO NOT click any links on this story provided!), Sir Michael Caine -- who of course plays Alfred -- says the story/script for THE DARK KNIGHT RISES is really, really good. "The plot is extraordinary...really extraordinary. I know why he [Chris Nolan] wants to keep it a secret."
Wow, Nolan wants to keep the story a secret...go figure. He actually wants the audience to enjoy the film when they see it and not ruin it for themselves beforehand. In other words, Chris is protecting these spoiler-hounds from themselves and they don't even realize it.
YES, I got your email and NO it's not real Posted by Jett @ 12:22 PM on Monday, June 20, 2011
There is no "teaser trailer," yet, for THE DARK KNIGHT RISES (and I'm shocked that some sites are reporting it as such). Check back in July when the last HARRY POTTER hits theaters.
(Since I didn't pimp it here really, I did see GREEN LANTERN early last week. I'm sure many of y'all have already seen it, but HERE'S MY REVIEW anyway. It's my hope that WB/DCE will not freak out and go ahead with the already-planned sequel. My advice to 'em: Go out and hire a filmmaker with a VISION and PASSION for the character, OK? Sorta like you did with that Chris Nolan chap a few years ago.)
"Vigilante Fashion and Populating Gotham" Posted by Jett @ 2:40 PM on Friday, June 17, 2011
One of the great things about running BOF is that I’ve had the opportunity to meet and mentor a lot of talented young individuals. Sean Gerber and his MODERN MYTH MEDIA comes to mind, as well as Chris Clow. Chris reviews many a comic for BOF and he’s now doing a monthly THE DARK KNIGHT RISES column for MOVIES.COM. So, here’s his latest -- “Vigilante Fashion and Populating Gotham.” Read and enjoy!
FYI: MAJOR TDKR Spoiler Revealed! Posted by Jett @ 10:40 AM on Thursday, June 16, 2011
This is something that really feel I shouldn’t post on BOF because it is a MAJOR TDKR SPOILER. However, I've decided to do so (sorta) because 1) I know it to be true, and 2) It’s being reported by one of the trades. I’m not going to say what it is here, but if you want to know, visit VARIETY.COM. WARNING: Knowing this could possibly have a bigtime negative affect on your TDKR viewing pleasure, trust me. THIS is the info that I hoped would never be revealed or leaked.
A TDKR Heads Up! Posted by Jett @ 7:00 AM on Tuesday, June 14, 2011
The Licensing International Expo 2011 in Las Vegas is opening and it looks as if Warner Bros. will be hawking THE DARK KNIGHT RISES. As a result, I expect that we'll get to see something related to the film -- but what might that be? The film's logo? The new Batmobile? The Bat-skateboard? Stay tuned!
UPDATE! Well, it seems the official logo for THE DARK KNIGHT RISES is on display at the Expo -- in fact, I've see it thanks to about 100 emails from folks sending it to me. I'm not going to post the pic here at BOF for obvious reasons, but I will describe it. It's the same Bat-logo from the previous 2 films, but it's not broken as it was in THE DARK KNIGHT. "THE DARK KNIGHT RISES" is underneath the Bat-Symbol and reports say it's got a "purple-ish" color scheme.
UPDATE 2! There’s a really good image of the TDKR logo (via the Expo) making the rounds on the internet faster than grease through a goose. If you desire to see it, I don’t think it’s going to be hard to find. As far as BOF’s concerned, I’ll wait ‘til I get a good hi-res image of it from Warner Bros. before I post it here.
Josh Stewart Joins TDKR Cast Posted by Jett @ 6:44 AM on Tuesday, June 14, 2011
Per VARIETY.COM, Josh Stewart has joined the cast of THE DARK KNIGHT RISES in an undisclosed role.
He's gotta be Robin, right? Or Nightwing? Or Harold Quinn perhaps?
*Probably* No TDKR at SDCC '11 Posted by Jett @ 6:34 PM on Monday, June 13, 2011
To be perfect honest, I don’t blame ‘em at ALL.
According to a report via THE NEW YORK TIMES, Warner Bros. will not bring any films to this Summer's Comic Con International in San Diego -- including THE DARK KNIGHT RISES and MAN OF STEEL.
For reasons I shall divulge in an upcoming op-ed, I don’t blame them one F’n bit.
Did YOU try to walk the floor last year? Or get into Hall H? Sheesh!
TDKR "News/Spoiler" & New Mailbag Posted by Jett @ 5:34 PM on Monday, June 13, 2011
I've got a "BIG" TDKR for you! Even though it's a spoiler, I said "What the hell! I NEED website hits!" Consequently, I'm tossing my "No Spoiler" policy out the window with the following report -- though y’all will have to scroll-over it to read out of respect for my “No Spoilers!” audience…
In THE DARK KNIGHT RISES, The Batman and Bane will fight! Not only that, but The Dark Knight will probably get hurt! And that’s not all, “sources” say that Batman will actually wear what is called a “cape” and a “cowl” in the film.
I know most of y'all reading this will keep that "scoop" on the down and low and I SO MUCH appreciate it!
I've also got a new BOF MAILBAG for your, as always, your *ahem* "reading pleasure."
Possible Spoiler Alert! Posted by Jett @ 2:41 PM on Friday, June 10, 2011
Though the story originated on a very dubious site, it's being picked up by several legit and popular outlets, so be careful if you are avoiding spoilers. Honestly, it's something we all think may happen in TKDR and it's actually been discussed for some time now. Anyway, heads up!
Michael Caine Starts Work Next Week, Freeman in Three Posted by Jett @ 9:00 AM on Friday, June 10, 2011

And per THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER, Morgan Feeman revealed he begins work on the film "...in about three weeks in the U.K. Then we'll be in Pittsburgh and Los Angeles."

Heads Up: Major Spoiler Out There! BOF Turns 13 Posted by Jett @ 1:26 PM on Wednesday, June 1, 2011
Just an FYI for those who are avoiding spoilers. A major one seems to have leaked from the UK set and is being picked up by various outlets. Consequently, I'd be careful while surfing for TDKR news as I've seen the spoiler in headlines...
On a personal note, I started BOF 13 years ago today. Cheers and a BIG THANKS to all the loyal readers who've made this site what it is!
Osterley Park = New Wayne Manor? Posted by Jett @ 12:44 PM on Saturday, May 28, 2011
Back in March, BOF was the first to report that TDKR may shoot at Osterley Park in West London (story HERE). According to the mansion's OFFICIAL SITE, the landmark will be closed to the public on June 15, 16, 17 and 22, 2011 for "private hire."
I suspect that this shoot will be for "Wayne Manor" interiors only -- but you never know.
TDKR To Film in Jersey? Posted by Jett @ 11:47 AM on Saturday, May 28, 2011
Per NJ.COM, Newark Mayor Cory Booker says movie executives are scouting Newark, New Jersey to possibly film some scenes there for THE DARK KNIGHT RISES. This info comes from the Mayor's Twitter account.
Downtown Newark, New Jersey
Well, they're filming in New York City, so maybe they'll cross the river and film a bit of movie in Jersey. (Thanks to longtime BOF'er "Chris W. from Jersey" for the heads up!)
Mathew Modine and "Nixon" Posted by Jett @ 10:11 PM on Thursday, May 26, 2011
If you didn't see it online as if yet, there's some speculation/rumor regarding Mathew Modine's role as this "Nixon" character in THE DARK KNIGHT RISES. If you are avoiding SPOILERS, then I'd keep away from the original report. But I will direct you to IGN MOVIES and my friend Stax's report/op-ed on Modine/Nixon. Again, if you are avoiding anything thing that could be a SPOILER, I'd shy away from this article. However, just know it's speculation based on conjecture, OK? I read it and don't feel as if I've seen anything that I didn't want to see quite frankly. Take that for what you will BOF'ers.
TDKR's In Scotland Posted by Jett @ 12:19 PM on Wednesday, May 25, 2011
Scottish BOF'er "D" sent over a report and pic of what's going on in Glasgow. CLICK HERE for the full story and image.
UPDATE: According to a Scottish BOF'er who will remain anonymous, filming of TDKR looks to be moving to a city (which I shall not name) in the "Highlands of Scotland" once done in Glasgow. "I can't see it being anything other than external shots," our guy says, "but you never know."
Glasgow, Pittsburgh, New York. I gotta say that I can't wait to see how Gotham is going to look this time around when those cities (and probably others) are combined with TDKR's wonderful VFX team's work.
Cullen, Ellis Join Cast Posted by Jett @ 7:00 AM on Tuesday, May 24, 2011
VARIETY is reporting that character actors Brett Cullen and Chris Ellis have joined the cast of THE DARK KNIGHT RISES. Cullen will play a judge and Ellis a priest. Both are small roles.
Chris Ellis and Brett Cullen
Sadly, the casting news we're all waiting for -- yours truly being cast as Crazy Quilt -- has yet to happen.
No Catwoman Pic, Bane in the BOF MAILBAG Posted by Jett @ 6:59 PM on Monday, May 23, 2011
I had planned to totally ignore this, but the tons of email I got about it made it impossible. So here's the deal: There's been NO image of Anne Hathaway released via viral marketing. Period...
Speaking of tons of email, I got lots this weekend asking me what I thought of the first image of Tom Hardy as Bane -- as well as some *ahem* "constructive criticism" (AKA "Ridiculous Fanboy Ramblings"). So I addressed all that in the latest BOF MAILBAG.
TDKR in Scotland Update Posted by Jett @ 6:19 AM on Monday, May 23, 2011
Here's a brief update on the TDKR shoot taking place in Scotland (via THE DAILY RECORD)...
Glasgow is to be transformed into Gotham City in the latest Batman film sequel.
Director Christopher Nolan will use shots filmed around Glasgow in some of exterior scenes in the final instalment of his Batman trilogy. Shooting has already begun in London and Croydon and will head north for several scenes early next month.
Nolan, who previously used Chicago to depict Gotham, wanted to use several different locations to create a Gotham nobody would recognise. A source revealed: "He plans to use various cities to provide a mash-up of what Gotham will look like.
It appears as if they'll finish up shooting in London in about a week or so, head to Scotland in early June, and then to the U.S. for the remainder of the filming.
Modine, Conti, and King Join TDKR Cast Posted by Jett @ 6:19 PM on Friday, May 20, 2011

UPDATE: The VARIETY post has been updated their post and is also reporting that Joey King has joined the cast.
UPDATE 2: It has now been revealed that Modine will be playing a character named Nixon.

TDKR in NYC Update & More Posted by Jett @ 6:07 AM on Thursday, May 19, 2011
My good friend "A.P." is back with a little info on the TDKR shoot in The Big Apple. It's going to last 12 days and I'm not totally sure of the timeline, but I think it's this Fall...
"Show-Me State" BOF'er "MH" -- who just happens to be in London -- snapped a few (non-spoilerish) pics of the current TDKR set in London. Nothing new quite frankly, but they're still cool and you can check 'em out HERE...
And finally (I think), I spoke with a friend who "knows," and she/he is promising a hell of film in TDKR -- one in which will not disappoint anyone. Except fanboys, naturally.
TDKR Official Press Release & More Posted by Jett @ 10:17 AM on Thursday, May 19, 2011
Warner Bros. has provided BOF will the official press release for THE DARK KNIGHT RISES. CLICK HERE to read and see who's all part of the show...
TDKR filming is continuing in London as we speak. Apparently, all hands (Bale, JGL, Hardy, Oldman, and Hathaway) are on deck and filming scenes that involve the GPD and their SWAT unit. The building they are currently filming at appears to be being used by the filmmakers as a pseudo-soundstage -- much like The Old Post Office in Chicago was used for THE DARK KNIGHT. You also have to figure that some sort of outside location filming will soon be taking place on the streets of London with all the GPD police cars and SWAT vans that have recently been spotted.
For all of you avoiding spoilers, I haven’t seen anything that I’d consider a true spoiler show up online as of yet. I have been lobbying Warner Bros. and “Team Nolan” to release some publicity images of Batman, Catwoman, Bane, etc. BEFORE a “spy-pic” is taken during filming and shows up online -- like this one...
Remember that? That was a spy-pic of Heath Ledger as The Joker taken in April of '07 in Chicago while filming the "Bank Robbery Scene." What a crappy way to first see Heath as The Joker. Let's hope that nothing like that happens with TDKR.
Anyway, back to spoilers, Ra’s Al Cool is back with a new video in which he allegedly reveals some MAJOR one from TDKR. Consider yourself warned before CLICKING ON THIS LINK!
TDKR Official Website Coming Soon? Posted by Jett @ 6:17 PM on Tuesday, May 17, 2011
If you click on THEDARKKNIGHTRISES.COM, it's now redirecting to the official Warner Bros. website. History lesson: The official site for THE DARK KNIGHT went live in May of '07. It's now May of '11, SO...
Let me repeat the "friendly advice" that I gave my good friends at Warner Bros. earlier today: If any outside location filming in London involves Christian Bale, Tom Hardy, and Anne Hathaway in costume (as Batman, Bane, and Catwoman respectively), you might want to release official images of them BEFORE someone takes a crappy spy-pic and puts it up online. Beat those A-holes to the punch!
TDKR UK Shoot: GPD SWAT Vans Posted by Jett @ 6:26 PM on Tuesday, May 17, 2011
Not much, but it looks as if something will be shot in London involving the GPD and their SWAT unit.
CLICK HERE or on the thumbnail above to check out the pic in full.
A friendly reminder to Warner Bros.: If any outside location filming in London involves Christian Bale, Tom Hardy, and Anne Hathaway in costume (as Batman, Bane, and Catwoman respectively), you might want to release official images of them BEFORE someone takes a crappy spy-pic and puts it up online...
On an (sorta) unrelated note, BOF's Mark Hughes is now writing for FORBES! Check out his first article -- "Could You Really Become Batman? -- RIGHT HERE. Cheers Mark!
TDKR UK Filming Begins & More Keaton Posted by Jett @ 12:33 PM on Monday, May 16, 2011
UK FILMING UPDATE
Filming on THE DARK KNIGHT RISES has begun in the UK, London specifically. It looks as if they are shooting inside a building currently. No word as of yet whether or not TDKR will take to the streets of London. Filming in the UK is going to take place for the remainder of the month. There are also a number of pictures of the set all over the Net that show nothing -- don't worry about 'em if you are avoiding spoilers.
MORE MICHAEL KEATON
Check out the following "Bonus Feature" from HERO COMPLEX's lengthy interview with Michael Keaton. MK gives us his thoughts on THE DARK KNIGHT and describes a "lost scene" from BATMAN '89.
The Great Michael Uslan has written a Book & New BOF Mailbag! Posted by Jett @ 10:06 AM on Sunday, May 15, 2011
One of my personal heros is film producer Michael Uslan -- the man responsible for bringing Batman to the silver screen. And now Michael has put pen to paper to detail this facinating story in his upcoming book, THE BOY WHO LOVED BATMAN: A MEMIOR.
I've already ordered mine and if you're a fan of Batman on film (literally, not just BOF!) you've GOT to get this book. I've talked to Mr. Uslan and he's agreed to chat about the book and Batman for a BOF interview soon! SWEET...
And speaking of Batman on film -- THE DARK KNIGHT RISES specifically -- I took on a very interesting question about Talia -- err, "Miranda Tate" -- and Catwoman in the latest BOF MAILBAG.
Alon Aboutboul Cast as "Evil Scientist" in TDKR? TDKR Has a @250 Million Pricetag Posted by Jett @ 6:00 AM on Friday, May 13, 2011
According to the Israeli site XNET, Alon Aboutboul is set to join the cast of THE DARK KNIGHT as "an evil scientist." Could this mean he's playing Dr. Hugo Strange? Intersting.
Keep in mind that this info is currently unconfirmed. Stay tuned...
Per THE LOS ANGELES TIMES, THE DARK KNIGHT RISES will cost $250 Million to produce and Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures are squabbling over how to divvy up the eventual profits.
TDKR in the UK, Micheal Keaton, & More! Posted by Jett @ 9:01 AM on Thursday, May 12, 2011
(FYI: Some details of this shoot were removed by BOF.) TDKR has left India and will be filming in the UK for the next several weeks -- London specifically...
Check out BOF's Chris Clow first TDKR article on MOVIES.COM. Chris -- who reviews Bat-Comics for me and is a "BOF Roundtabler" -- will be writing a bi-weekly TDKR column on the site beginning in June. I HIGHLY recommend it. AND...
My friends at HOLLYWOODCHICAGO.COM (FYI: Possible SPOILERS for some folks in that link!) are covering TDKR -- despite the fact that the film isn't shooting in their backyard. If you're interested in "spoilerish" info that will not be featured on BOF, I'd give them a go (as well as any of the sites that you will find in the "Links" section on the BOF MAIN PAGE)...
Check out my friend Geoff Boucher's interview with many a Batman fan's personal Batman, Michael Keaton, RIGHT HERE. He may not be "My Batman" (Mine are West and Bale), but he was a damn good Caped Crusader. AND finally...
As for BOF, I guess I'll continue on doing what I do and how I do it and be the BIGGEST TDKR cheerleader on the planet. Cheers!
TDKR's Indian Shoot Complete Posted by Jett @ 6:40 AM on Tuesday, May 10, 2011
FYI: The source of this report contains MAJOR SPOILERS! Do not click on it if you are avoiding them...
According to THE TIMES OF INDIA, the TDKR shoot in India is complete. Also, the report claims that both Christian Bale and Josh Pense (who is playing a young Ra's Al Ghul in the film) were on set and filmed scenes. The report also details what was filmed with star Christian Bale, thus the SPOILER warning.
My take? Well, this is the same outlet that reported that Bale would be the only cast member on set, and then later said there would be no cast members shooting in India. I also don't think this outlet would be privy to such details of what Nolan and co. were actually shooting and how it fits into TDKR. I suspect that there is a lot of assuming going on here.
Regardless, filming in India is complete. Where next? Probably Pittsburgh, PA, USA.
UPDATE: I checked with a very solid "FOBOF" and he/she says they are not going to Pittsburgh next -- that will be in June. Our "FOBOF" says they'll shoot either in LA or in the UK next. Stay tuned.
Heads Up: TDKR India Set Pics Online (and they might be SPOILERISH!) Posted by Jett @ 6:40 PM on Friday, May 6, 2011
You read the headline, so be careful where you go if you are avoiding anything that could potentially be a THE DARK KNIGHT RISES spoiler. You're safe here on BOF, but probably not on many other outlets.
So, let me make this REAL CLEAR…
BOF does not post ANYTHING that could possibly considered a SPOILER!
Look, I know that there are a ton of folks who don’t agree with this policy or GET why I run things the way I run ‘em -- and that’s perfectly fine. Those people who want to know every single thing about every single thing are welcome to go elsewhere and find out about every single thing.
To them, I say “Knock yourself out!” And…
I hope you enjoy JULY 20, 2012 as much as me and all the other BOF’ers out there. *wink*
(For those still scratching their heads, might I suggest the THE BOF 101/FAQ.)
TDKR India Shoot Update Posted by Jett @ 3:00 PM on Thursday, May 5, 2011
Filmmaker Christopher Nolan, who helmed the series’ first two projects — BATMAN BEGINS, and THE DARK KNIGHT that went on to make over $1 billion worldwide — will pan the camera in India over the weekend for the final installment of the series. Nolan has written the screenplay for this one with his brother Jonathan.
“Chris flew down to India in December last year in a hush-hush affair for a recce in Jodhpur, and he loved the place. He will shoot a two-day desert sequence there and inside the Mehrangarh Fort on May 6 and May 7,” says an industry source.
“It’ll be a fraction scene in the movie and perhaps the audiences won’t even come to know that it’s India,” the source adds. The fort authorities confirm. “Yes, the movie is being shot here,” says a front desk executive.
The film unit arrived on Wednesday in a chartered plane with over a dozen crew members, and Nolan is expected to fly back on May 8. Bale, however, is not coming to the country.
Hmm...No Bale in India. I wonder what the heck they could be filming there? Interesting.
Certainly not TDKR-related, but here's my review of THOR anyway. Enjoy!
Marion Cotillard Talks TDKR & "Miranda Tate" Posted by Jett @ 6:00 AM on Thursday, May 5, 2011
Here's a few blurbs from Marion Cotillard about her role in THE DARK KNIGHT RISES...
* "My role is a secret, as is the whole project." So speculation about who she'll actually be -- from a love interest of Christian Bale's Bruce Wayne/Batman to a more shadowy character -- can run riot."
* (On what makes Batman such an interesting character.) "He can't really fly, and he doesn't have superpowers. And he has that darkness inside."
TDKR Filming Schedule Update/Details Posted by Jett @ 6:25 PM on Monday, May 2, 2011
Here's a few details about TDKR's shooting schedule from a very solid, longtime source...
* The shoot in India is a short one.
* Filming in Pittsburgh is only going to last about 3 weeks.
* Back overseas for a shoot in the UK and then probably headed to NYC.
* Most of the filming looks to be taking place in LA -- studio/soundstage work he assumes.
Also, another longtime FOBOF ("Friend of Batman on Film") tells me that the film's official synopsis could be coming soon. And since so many of you have asked via email, I have heard nothing about a viral campaign for THE DARK KNIGHT RISES. Of course, that doesn't mean there will not be one.
TDKR India Shoot Details Posted by Jett @ 6:54 PM on Thursday, April 27, 2011
According to TIMES OF INDIA, Christopher Nolan will being filming TDKR in India at Jodhpur's Mehrangar Fort with Christian Bale on May 6th and 7th.

Pittsburgh "Story" Update Posted by Jett @ 11:14 AM on Saturday, April 16, 2011
A story broke a day or two ago about a certain building in Pittsburgh that was of a particular interest to Team Nolan and would be used a certain way while shooting THE DARK KNIGHT RISES. Our good friend “A.P.” alerted me to this possibility several weeks ago and I did not report it as I thought it was potentially spoilerish information. While I’m still not going to mention it on BOF at this time, the CBS AFFILIATE IN PITTSBURGH has an updated story on this situation that’s contrary to what was alleged in the aforementioned story -- and what I was told a while ago by A.P.
Carbonell Returning as Gotham's Mayor Posted by Jett @ 2:34 PM on Friday, April 15, 2011
VARIETY.COM is reporting that Nestor Carbonell is "in negotiations" join the cast of THE DARK KNIGHT RISES and reprise his role as the mayor of Gotham City.
Good to hear! I thought Carbonell did a great job in THE DARK KNIGHT and I'm glad to hear he is returning. I guess he might be a "bad guy" this time around as I'm sure he'll be hell-bent to get The Batman.
Animated THE DARK KNIGHT RETURNS In The Works? Posted by Jett @ 6:31 PM on Thursday, April 14, 2011
According to BLEEDINGCOOL.COM, a PG-13 animated adaptation of Frank Miller's classic THE DARK KNIGHT RETURNS is in the works. If so, that's GREAT news! I've long hoped that TDKR (and the "R" this time stands for "RETURNS") would get the animated treatment. However, I'm sure this project is a ways down the line.
So, are you interested in an animated PG-13 TDKR? Or would you prefer a live-action one-shot ala WATCHMEN?

BOF PODCAST: JGL, Young Ra's Al Ghul, & Reboot...Already?! Posted by Jett @ 10:43 AM on Tuesday, April 12, 2011

In this installment, Jett and "The BOF Roundtablers" -- Sean, Brad, Robert, John, and Jake -- discuss Joseph Gordon-Levitt's role in TDKR, the announcement that Josh Pence is portraying a young Ra's, and the revelation that Batman on film is heading for a reboot post-TDKR. Team Nolan Scouting in NYC For TDKR Posted by Jett @ 8:05 PM on Thursday, April 7, 2011
No big news here or anything, but I'm sure it'll make New York BOF'ers happy. Our old friend "A.P." let me know that director Chris and the rest of "Team Nolan" was in New York City today again scouting locations for THE DARK KNIGHT RISES.
TDKR Will Shoot in Pittsburgh Posted by Jett @ 2:05 PM on Tuesday, April 5, 2011
THE DARK KNIGHT RISES will film in Pittsburgh, PA. "Pittsburgh is a beautiful city," said director Chirs Nolan. "We have been able to find everything we were looking for here, and I am excited to spend the summer in Pittsburgh with our final installment of Batman." Filming in the Steel City is expected to last for 4 to 6 weeks.
There was a fear that tax break issues would force the production to another locale, but that's not the case. Back on February 24th, longtime BOF insider "A.P." told me the following: "[Shooting in Pittsburg is] for sure. Team Nolan isn't concerned about the tax breaks." Also, a potential Pittsburgh filming locale was reported by BOF back on March 3rd. CLICK HERE for that story. It's an old school that's no longer being use. I suspect it may serve a similar purpose as Chicago's "Old Post Office" when THE DARK KNIGHT was shot in The Windy City in '07.
4.4.11 TDKR Odds and Ends Posted by Jett @ 7:27 PM on Monday, April 4, 2011
Marion Cotillard's Got a "Summer Project"
MC admits to THE INDEPENDENT that she has a "Summer project" on her schedule -- though she won't say what said project is. The anal-ness here reaks of Mr. Chris Nolan, don't you think? (Thanks to "maladjusted" on the BOF MESSAGE BOARD for the heads up!")
Possible TDKR Shoot Locale?
"IH" shot BOF an email saying he had heard that Kedleston Hall in the UK was going to be/had been scouted by Chris Nolan and co. for a film. He told me to take it with a grain of salt, so I'll suggest the same to you all.
Cinematic Batman to be Rebooted Post-TDKR Posted by Jett @ 11:20 AM on Tuesday, March 29, 2011
Via HERO COMPLEX, Warner Bros. plans to reboot Batman on film after THE DARK KNIGHT RISES. Here's an an excerpt from the story...
Robinov knows that the most bankable part of his superhero empire has been Nolan and his Gotham City films – the studio has yet to deliver a 21st century superhero blockbuster hit without Nolan in the director’s seat. Batman will continue to be a centerpiece property beyond next year’s THE DARK KNIGHT RISES and Nolan’s departure from the franchise. “We have the third Batman [film], but then we’ll have to reinvent Batman,” he explained. Does that mean a reboot? Robinov answered assertively: “I do. Chris Nolan and [producing partner and wife] Emma Thomas will be producing it, so it will be a conversation with them about what the next phase is."
I've heard whispers of this -- a Batman on film reboot -- but hoped that Nolan's films would continue to serve as the foundation for the Batman film series. At least Chris and Emma Thomas will stay on as producers of the Batman films, so that's comforting. Regardless, it looks like WB wants a Batman that exists in a cinematic DC Universe.
What's your take on this decision? Head on over to the MAIN PAGE and vote in the Bat-Poll."

No TDKR For Treat Williams
Actor Treat Williams tells ZAP2IT.COM that his committment to Lifetime's family-oriented police drama, "Against the Wall," will prevent him from taking a part in THE DARK KNIGHT RISES.
TDKR returning to Chicago?
Despite the fact that GPD squad cars have been spotted in Chi-Town, BOF has been told that TDKR is not going to lens in The Windy City. These cars were probably stored in Chicago and are being prepped to move to where they will be needed.
Gary Oldman Confirms Chris Nolan is Anal Posted by Jett @ 10:05 AM on Monday, March 28, 2011

Trade Confirms Juno Temple For TDKR Posted by Jett @ 6:22 PM on Thursday, March 24, 2011
VARIETY.COM is reporting that Juno Temple is "locked" for THE DARK KNIGHT RISES. "Not 100% certain on the role yet," reports the trade, "but we're hearing she'll play a 'street-smart Gotham girl,' so it' s not sounding like anything more than a small part."
"Street-smart Gotham girl" = Catwoman sidekick Holly Robinson in my book. Or Carrie Kelly? Stephanie Brown? Would Chris Nolan include Robin -- a female Robin at that -- in TDKR? Hmmm...
Nah, she's Holly.

Oldman: Gordon's Clothes Suck! Posted by Jett @ 6:44 AM on Thursday, March 10, 2011
Well, he didn't say exactly that, but he did make a joke about Gordon's wardrobe during an interview with FLICKSANDBITS.COM. Here's what Gary had to say when asked if he was excited to put on the Commissioner Gordon uniform again soon...
"My drab greys and beiges (laughs). I went to the production offices the other day and there’s all these fantastic pictures across the wall, Catwoman, this, that, and I thought where’s my wall? I don’t have a wall, I just have a rack of very very dull clothes (laughs). I’m looking forward to working with the gang again, Academy Award winning Christian Bale, I bet he won’t get my coffee anymore (laughs)."
Oldman Talks TDKR Villains & Story Posted by Jett @ 9:20 AM on Wednesday, March 9, 2011
Via EONLINE.COM, here's a few blurbs from Gary Oldman about TDKR at the RED RIDING HOOD premiere...
"I think it's a villain from one of the old, old, from way back from the old comics. It is a Batman villian...t's not going to be The Joker. If I told you who the villain was, they'd kill me!" I know the story...I just think it's going to be terrific."

Neeson: No Ra's in TDKR Posted by Jett @ 1:52 PM on Tuesday, March 8, 2011
Via an interview with EMPIREONLINE.COM, Liam Neeson says that Ra's Al Ghul will not show up in THE DARK KNIGHT RISES...
"That rumour’s totally not true. In the comic books, Ra’s Al Ghul goes into a life bath of some sort and immerses himself to become immortal. So that’s probably where that comes from. But no-one’s approached me with an offer. I’d like to if it happens."
What rumor? Anyway...
I'd certainly love to see Ra's return, so it's good to know that Liam would do it if Chris Nolan and co. asked.
I will say that if Ra's Al Ghul shows up in TDKR, then the character will be played by Neeson. "Ra's Al Ghul" is not a title bestowed on someone as many fans have suggested.
Speaking hypothetically, I wonder how Chris/David/Jonathan would go about pulling off a Ra's resurrection? I certainly don't see a Lazarus Pit in Nolan's Bat-Universe. I guess he got off the train too in BATMAN BEGINS. Oh well, no need to worry about it as it's not going to happen anyway.
Gary Oldman Says TDKR Script is "Fantastic" Posted by Jett @ 11:58 AM on Sunday, March 6, 2011
Via COLLIDER.COM, here's what Gary Olman -- who of course plays Gotham Police Department Commissioner Jim Gordon -- had to say about the script for THE DARK KNIGHT RISES...
"[The script is] fantastic. You think you can’t top THE DARK KNIGHT and I think he may have."
You can check out the full interview (for Gary's upcoming film RED RIDING HOOD) by clicking the link provided above.
Gary's a cool dude. I had the chance to visit with him informally during the TDK press junket back in '08. I told him that I loved the speech he/Gordon gives at the end of the film. I then asked him what was his personal favorite "Gordon" part of the film. He said the scene where he and Harvey Dent (as played by Aaron Eckhart) meet in Dent's office. He then slapped me on the back and said, "Let's go get good and drunk mate!"
OK, he didn't do that, but we did have a nice chat. (Thanks to BOF's John Bierly for the heads up!)

Eckhart Talks THE DARK KNIGHT RISES Posted by Jett @ 12:07 PM on Wednesday, March 2, 2011
Here's what Aaron Eckhart had to say about THE DARK KNIGHT RISES and the fact that he's NOT in it...
"I just saw Chris the other day, Chris Nolan, and you know, what can I say? The guy didn't put me in the movie. It’s fine. Actually, I wouldn’t have it any other way because with Heath [Ledger], 'The Dark Night' is Heath’s movie, it stands on its own and there’s no reason to do any more with that and it’s a natural thing too. I have total confidence in Chris. [He] is going to come up with a brilliant script and [the new cast additions] will be as good as they ever were in it."
BS! This is nothing but a ruse! Yes, Harvey Dent died, but Two Face LIVED! Why would he be talking to Chris Nolan if he wasn't returning as Two Face?! Huh HUH?! *wink* Anyway...
Anne Hathaway: "I'm Catwoman!" Posted by Jett @ 7:10 PM on Monday, February 28, 2011
OK, just forget the fact that the following comes via OPRAH.COM. Anyway, Anne Hathaway confirms -- in a round about way mind you -- that she is playing Catwoman in THE DARK KNIGHT RISES. I know what you're thinking, "We already know that!" No, what we knew for sure that Anne had been cast as Selina Kyle, not Catwoman. So click on the link provided to hear it straight from the horse's -- well, cat's -- mouth.

Larry Holden (D.A. Finch in BATMAN BEGINS) Has Passed Posted by Jett @ 1:00 PM on Sunday, February 27, 2011

I had the chance to know Larry a bit and did an interview with him in August of 2005 (read the interview HERE). My condolences go out to Larry's family.
Shoot Locale Update: It Begins in India & Pittsburgh is "For Sure?" Posted by Jett @ 1:00 PM on Thursday, February 24, 2011
I talked to our 'ol friend "A.P." today and he is adamant that TDKR will begin production by shooting in India. A.P. told us about the India shoot back on February 11th (see story below), but recent scuttlebutt said filming would start in L.A. Since A.P. has been right 100% of the time, I believe him. India? I wonder what the hell Team Nolan will be filming there? Does the locale have anything to do with Bane? Catwoman? Talia? Crazy Quilt?
PITTSBURGH UPDATE! Even though it's been all doom and gloom of late about the possible shoot in Pittsburgh, A.P. says that's not the case. Filming in Pittsburgh is "for sure," says A.P. "Team Nolan isn't concerned about the tax breaks." Good news for the Steel City.
And on a completely unrelated and BS note, word has it that Tomball, TX has entered the mix as a TDKR shooting location. Now that would be cool...and convenient.
Hardy Talks Bane Posted by Jett @ 6:12 PM on Monday, February 21, 2011
Several British BOF'ers emailed today reporting that Tom Hardy was on the ALAN CARR: CHATTY MAN talk show. Here's a parphrased version of what he had to say about playing Bane in THE DARK KNIGHT RISES...
* Don't go by how Bane looked or was portrayed in 1997'a BATMAN AND ROBIN -- Chris Nolan's interpretation is going to be totally different.
* Wouldn't say whether or not TDKR's Bane will wear a mask.
* Plans to bulk up quite a bit before he's due on set in May. Said he needs to get to "13 or 14 stone" -- whatever that means!
(Thanks to all of you who emailed in reports!)
UPDATE! For the video of Hardy on the show, CLICK HERE! And thanks to many UK BOF'ers, I was informed that "14 stone" is between 190 and 200 pounds.
TDKR Shooting in Pittsburgh? Caine: Script Still Unfinished Posted by Jett @ 12:21 PM on Tuesday, February 15, 2011
In an interview with E! ONLINE, Sir Michael Caine had the following to say about TDKR's status...
"I talked to Chris [Nolan] last week because I said I hadn't gotten a script and he said, 'I haven't finished it.' And he said, 'I'll finish it in two weeks."
From what I've heard, the script was a tad long and Chris is in the process of tightening it up.
Also, the city of Pittsburgh, PA has been mentioned as a possible shoot locale for TDKR. I know that news outlets in the city are currently trying to get confirmation, and HERE is a news report from KDKA CBS 2. I don't have any info about Pittsburgh, but I have heard about a possible shoot in Philadelphia -- same state, different city.

Our 'ol friend "A.P." is back with a few TDKR shooting details...
"There's going to be something big shot at the New York Stock Exchange, probably in October. Word has it that principal photography will start in India."
The New York Stock Exchange
Of course, we first knew that India was a possibility thanks to Geoff Boucher over at HERO COMPLEX. He interviewed Chris Nolan via the phone while the director was in India scouting locations for TDKR. Now, whether or not the film will actually have a setting in the country is unclear. Just because they shoot in India doesn't mean TDKR is in India -- you know what I mean?
As far as the NYC locale, rumor has it that JGL is playing the New York Stock Exchange, but that can't be confirmed.

F/X Guru Paul Franklin Talks TDKR Posted by Jett @ 8:59 PM on Friday, February 4, 2011
F/X guru Paul Franklin had the following to say about THE DARK KNIGHT RISES...
* Catwoman will not be CGI-enhanced. What the hell? Who would think Catwoman would be CGI anyway?
* A CGI Bane? "You'd have to ask Chris," he said. "I think he has his plan but we're at a very, very early stage on the picture at the moment." I'll go on the record and say that Bane will not be CGI nor will Hardy be CGI-enhanced either.
* As with BATMAN BEGINS and THE DARK KNIGHT, Gotham City will be a digitally augmented real city.
TDKR Production Office in NYC? Posted by Jett @ 9:10 AM on Tuesday, February 1, 2011
According to our 'ol friend "A.P.," an office for THE DARK KNIGHT RISES has been set up in New York City and is "up and runnning." A.P. told BOF back on December 16th of laster year (scroll down) that one of the TDKR shooting locales might be "...something in New York." Apparently, that is the case. So heads up NYC BOF'ers, they may be needing extras!
In a related note, Chris Nolan is confirming that the start of shooting begins in May 2011. Again, BOF was told by A.P. back on October 6th of last year (again, scroll down below) that May of 2011 was when TDKR filming was to commence.
I think I may fly up to NYC whenever the NYC shoot takes place and check some of that out in person!
WallY Pfister Talks THE DARK KNIGHT RISES Posted by Jett @ 1:56 PM on Monday, January 31, 2011
Wally Pfister talks a little bit about TDKR and Anne Hathaway as Selina Kyle via BLEEDINGCOOL.COM. Here's some highlights...
* Pfister is deep in prep and has read the screenplay.
* “As much as possible” of TDKR will be filmed in IMAX.
* The opening sequence is impressive and will live up to -- and perhaps surpass -- THE DARK KNIGHT's.
* Pfister hadn’t even heard the "Robin Williams is Hugo Strange" rumor -- probably because it NEVER should have been a rumor! But he admitted that a lot is kept secret even from him.
* Hathaway "looks phenomenal in the wardrobe."
Anne Hathaway will look phenomenal as Catwoman

Well, I TOLD YOU It Was Imminent! Hathaway is Selina Kyle & Hardy is Bane in TDKR! Posted by Jett @ 11:48 AM on Wednesday, January 19, 2011
According to a Warner Bros. press release, Anne Hathaway has been cast as Selina Kyle/Catwoman and Tom Hardy as Bane in THE DARK KNIGHT RISES.
I'll have more on this later, but I've known Hardy was Bane for a while but was sworn to secrecy. And As I've said for a while now, I've long heard that Nolan and co. wanted to use Catwoman in a possible third Batman film -- IF they could find a way to use the character in a fresh manner (You can listen to our podcast on this topic from June of '10 HERE). BOF was also privy to knowing (and NOT from "Team Nolan") that the TDKR announcement was coming, but I had to play it off a bit.
