Ben Affleck on JUSTCE LEAGUE Director Rumor

Even though I am pretty much TOTALLY against a live-action Justice League film (Well, that’s not exactly true. There are three approaches to such a movie that I could get behind and support. A united “DCU on film” with a shared continuity isn’t one of them, FYI.), the prospect of Ben Affleck directing did make it an easier pill to swallow. I'm talking horse pill vs. Baby Aspirin easier to swallow here, OK?

Why you say? Because I like Affleck and think he’s one of the best young directors working today. In fact, he’s been my #1 choice to take over the Batman film franchise since before Chris Nolan finished his cinematic Batman story with THE DARK KNIGHT RISES. Anyway, back to Affleck (NOT) directing a JL film…

Here’s what he had to say about the rumor from a month or so ago that had him at the top of Warner Bros.’ potential JL directors list (via MTV.COM...

Translation: “A Justice League film has CHEESE and FAILURE written all over it. Why in the HELL would I want to do THAT when the films I direct are actually GOOD?!”

OK, I kid...a LITTLE.

Despite Ben’s proclamation that it’s this rumor is a creation of online “bloggers” and “fan interest” (“Fan Interest” for a JL film? Sure.), I believe that he was on the top of WB’s list to helm the film and probably took a meeting with the “Powers That Be” under the water tower. Regardless, the bottom line here is that BA ain’t helming a JL film and that’s a GOOD thing -- for him, not fans. You know what I mean?

Oh yeah, WB needs to hire David S. Goyer their “Creative Consultant” for ALL DC Comics-based films -- and give him REAL power -- like YESTERDAY.
