I tried to avoid
BOF having anything to do with
THIS STORY, but I keep getting emails about it asking me why I haven’t posted anything on this “big
BATMAN 3 scoop.”
Don’t you think BOF NOT posting anything about it says enough? Apparently not. Anyway…
Let me say something first about any B3 “plot details” and “scoops” that have previously -- and will eventually -- hit the Net…
IT’S PROBABLY ALL BS!
Chris Nolan is so secretive about all of his projects, that most of the stuff about them that does show up on websites is either bogus or is a carefully orchestrated ruse.
Hey, I speak from experience, alright? Do you know how much B3 “inside info” and “scoops” I get on a daily basis? Please! And to be honest, I myself have been duped before.
Let’s say that a first draft of BATMAN 3 does currently exist, OK? You can probably count on one hand the number of people who have actually read the thing. Do you think that someone that Nolan trusts enough to see the script is going to go and blab about it to a website? Exactly.
With that said, I’ll address this report and give you my 2 cents on the matter.
* The plot should be outlined in time for the screenwriting to begin in February.
No sh** Sherlock. There’s probably been a basic story for B3 since late in 2008 when Chris, David Goyer, and Jonathan Nolan “mused” about it.
* The Riddler is the primary villain and he figures out Batman’s identity.
There’s been rumors of The Riddler being the main B3 villain for quite some time. Even if the character ultimately shows up in the film, claiming that he’s the “primary villain” is and will be nothing more than a lucky educated guess.
* Arkham Asylum will figure prominently in the story.
Arkham Asylum was featured in BATMAN BEGINS and is a major “character” in the Batman mythos. I wouldn’t be surprised at all if we see it again in B3.
* Several classic villains will cameo, including The Penguin and Mr. Freeze (though as Dr. Fries, not as the supervillain).
Nolan’s had such cameos before -- Mr. Zsasz in BEGINS and The Scarecrow in THE DARK KNIGHT for instance. Why wouldn’t he do such again?
* Barbara Gordon will have a featured role.
Which one? Gordon’s wife who we saw in TDK? That wouldn’t be a shock if it happened. If we’re alluding to Gordon’s daughter Barbara, I’m not buying it at all. And does anyone think that Nolan would set up an eventual appearence by Batgirl?
* Commissioner Gordon will mention Metropolis and possibly Lex Luthor.
I find this to be complete BS. Frankly, it sounds like fanboy nonsense. Nolan is on the record saying that there are no superheroes -- well, ones with actually superpowers -- in the BEGINS/TDK universe. And don’t read anything into the fact that Nolan will “godfather” the development of a new SUPERMAN movie. Just because he’s taken on that role, doesn’t mean he’s working towards Batman and Superman meeting up in a film at some point. Anyone who says that’s the case has themselves a big ‘ol case of fan boy-itis.
* Dick Grayson may be in the movie (though probably not as Robin).
No way. Both Nolan and Christian Bale have said publicly (and many times actually) that there’s no place for a prepubescent/teenage crime fighter in their Batman world.
I don’t know, maybe BATMAN 3 ends with Bruce Wayne mentioning he’s taking a date to a circus, ala “The Joker card” at the end of BEGINS.
Nah, too cheesy.
The bottom line here is that some of this stuff may pan out and be included in some for in BATMAN 3. However, it won’t be because someone at Warner Bros. saw the script and then blabbed about it to a website.
So stay tuned my friends, I’m sure we’re in store for LOTS of stuff such as this over the next two years.
