UPDATED: This bit of news that you’ll read below is eerily similar to what transpired damn near exactly four years ago. On the eve of Comic Con International 2006 -- and just as I was fixin’ to board a plane to San Diego -- a “rumor” hit the Net that Heath Ledger had been cast as The Joker in BATMAN 2 (A rumor that I was able to confirme to as true once I landed in SD). Consequently, the biggest buzz at Comic Con was over a film that wasn’t even being pimped there! A few days later, Warner Bros. issued a press release stating that director Chris Nolan was returning to helm a second Batman film titled THE DARK KNIGHT. In addition, it was announced that Heath Ledger had been cast as The Joker and the film would be released in the Summer of 2008.

Interesting. On with the original report...

According to a report on FIRSTSHOWING.NET, “a reliable inside source with a studio casting grid” says that The Riddler is listed as a character in BATMAN 3.

Casting grids are used by the film industry to keep everyone who might be associated with a film in the loop on a project’s progress.

In addition, Joseph Gordon-Levitt -- who is in director Christopher Nolan’s INCEPTION as “Arthur” -- is listed as being “interested” in the role.

So what do you think? Do you want to see Nolan and co.’s take on The Riddler? And perhaps more importantly, what do you think about JGL taking on the role?

My take? I'd still take this with a grain of salt, but I think it's pretty solid info. As far as JGL, I've said before I'd love for him to be in B3.

Stay tuned to BOF as BATMAN 3 news will certainly be heating up over the second half of 2010.
