In an upcoming interview with
TOTAL FILM MAGAZINE (To promote his new film
HARRY BROWN in issue #162/January 2010), Sir Michael offered the following on
BATMAN 3:
Can you say anything about INCEPTION and BATMAN 3?
MICHEAL CAINE: "[Grins] No, because they're all so bloody secretive. I remember I read in the paper once that Johnny Depp was going to do Batman and I did an interview and they said, 'Well, what do you think of that?' I said, 'That's a good idea.' I got such a bollocking from everybody! They said, 'Why did you tell everybody Johnny was in it?' And I said, 'I never told them, I read it in the paper, I thought it was an announcement!' On INCEPTION they didn't even give me the script -- just my lines!"
So there's no chance of ending this interview with a scoop, then?
MC: "I couldn't tell you one if I wanted to. No bugger will tell me anything!"
OK, here's the deal. Why would anyone -- Chris Nolan, Emma Thomas (who is producing INCEPTION), and the other members of "Team Nolan" -- be so secretive about a film that they're not planning on being involved with? They wouldn't -- which tells me that Chris and co. are planning to return for B3.
Probably.
Maybe. Anyway...
Here's hoping that a resolution on BATMAN 3 comes EARLY in 2010 -- and an announcement comes with it.
One last thing, Mr. Caine offered up this very nice anecdote on the Late Heath Ledger's turn as The Joker in THE DARK KNIGHT:
"I remember when Christopher was talking about doing The Joker. I said, 'Who do you want?' and he said, 'Heath Ledger.' I'm a big fan of Heath, but bloody hell, going after Jack....Anyway, I was on the set and the only thing I'm partnering him in is when he comes up on the lift. And Heath came on the set, very calmly, and said hello and he had that make-up on. I'd never seen him and I thought, 'Jesus Christ, that's terrifying!' And then when he came out of the lift he went loopy. If you go back and watch my face as he goes past me it's great -= I look astonished and that isn't acting."
