If there are any “must haves” when it comes to the next BATMAN movie, it’s got to be the inclusion of the character of Selina Kyle – AKA Catwoman. Next to The Joker, Catwoman is the most iconic, well-known member of the Batman rogues gallery.

Honest to goodness, a big chunk of my BOF email involves Catwoman. "Who do you think will play Catwoman?" "So and so should play Catwoman." "Do you think Nolan will use Catwoman?" As a result, it's safe to assume that the fans would really love to see the character in the next Bat-Flick.

We got The Joker in THE DARK KNIGHT, now it’s time for Catwoman in BATMAN 3!

For argument's sake, let’s assume that Catwoman will be in B3, OK? I bet y’all every damn actress in Hollywood will be after that part, don’t you think? The chance to play Catwoman in the follow-up to THE DARK KNIGHT being directed by Chris Nolan? Get out of here! Anyway…

Who is going to play her? I have no idea, but the Catwoman casting rumors have already been making the rounds for at least a year now. So I figured I’d run down some of the usual suspects, provide the pros and cons of each, as well as give my take on each one of the “candidates.”

Kate Beckinsale

FIRST RUMORED: Has not been previously rumored -- fan fave.

PROS: Fairly good actress. Not opposed to doing genre or "big" films (The UNDERWORLD films, VAN HELSING, et al). Worked with Christian Bale in LAUREL CANYON. Looks the part. Fan favorite. And yes, yet another Brit.

CONS: Will be pushing 40 by the time B3 goes into production. Fan favorite.

CHRIS NOLAN FACTOR: None.

ODDS: Fair. May get consideration, but I don't see her ultimately getting the part.

Cher

FIRST RUMORED: 1990!

PROS: Yes, she's "Cher," but she can act. Won an Oscar for MOONSTRUCK and nominated for SILKWOOD.

CONS: She's in her 60s!

CHRIS NOLAN FACTOR: None.

ODDS: There's no way that Cher will get or be considered for Catwoman in B3. Now if this were an adaptation of THE DARK KNIGHT RETURNS, we might be on to something here.
