DC ON FILM – FLASHPOINT Has A Director(s)…Probably…Maybe

And Ben Affleck Was Offered This Gig?

Per VARIETY.COM, SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING writers John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein are “in negotiations” to direct Ezra Miller’s The Flash standalone movie, FLASHPOINT.

The trade speculates that Warner Bros. may be going for a “comedic tone” for the film, as these two dude’s directing background is on, well comedies — such as VACATION and the upcoming GAME NIGHT.

I’ll be honest, I didn’t think this film would ever happen — and I said as much on the most recent BOF VLOG.  With that said, I was a huge fan of the “Flashpoint” concept and LOVED the FLASHPOINT: BATMAN one-off comic book.  So, you can say that I’m at least curious about this film — though I’m STILL in “I’ll believe it when I see it mode.” (How many directors/writers have we had on this project already?)

What REALLY struck me in this report is that they kinda-sorta said that Warner Bros. offered F’n Ben Affleck the gig first.

Are you GD kidding me?!

Look, I’m a HUGE director Ben Affleck fan, but after the fiasco with him writing/directing THE BATMAN — and all the “is he in or out” drama for the last year — I can’t fathom why the studio thought Affleck helming FLASHPOINT was a good idea.  UNLESS…

It was a way for the studio and Affleck to amicably bring their “Batman arrangement” to an end.  AND…

If WB asked Affleck to direct, then you gotta figure that his Batman is in this film (and I KNOW that there’s a role for BS’s Batman in the FLASHPOINT script).

Even though Affleck is not directing, perhaps — as a BOF source told me recently — FLASHPOINT will serve as his “last hurrah” as Batman on film.
